UTE Porto Sergipe I, which entered into commercial operation in March of this year, has a capacity of 1551 MW and the capacity to supply 15% of the energy demand in the Northeast, which makes it considered one of the largest thermoelectric plants in Latin America.
The unit uses natural gas as fuel, which is taken to Sergipe in the form of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and regasified in the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU).
The ceremony will be attended by the governor of SE, Belivaldo Chagas and the Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Costa Lima Leite de Albuquerque Junior and the presence of President Jair Bolsonaro, in addition to other authorities. During the event, the commemorative plaque will be unveiled, marking the official inauguration of the Plant.
The inauguration of the Thermoelectric Power Plant reinforces Sergipe's prospects as a development hub in the Northeast
Sergipe is being considered a propitious state for the development of business and investments. Among other guidelines, the state has been relating very well to the proposal of the Novo Mercado de Gás, an initiative of the Federal Government.
Currently, Sergipe has the first private LNG terminal, which is part of the Porto do Sergipe I Thermoelectric Power Plant project, with up to 21 million m³/day of regasification capacity and the possibility to meet large demands for LNG and natural gas.
Expectations are that the state of Sergipe will have, in the next decade, a large supply of gas to be used through the exploration and production of oil and gas offshore the coast of the state.
