Applications for the next class of the course will take place between January 10 and February 10, 2022, with the following mandatory procedures:

• At the end of the application period, if there are more interested parties than available spots, a lottery will be held for the spots, according to the current USP legislation.
• If the lottery is held, informational messages will be sent to both the winners and the non-winners.
• The winners will be required to upload supporting documentation in the Apolo system:
• Curriculum vitae (no suggested format)
• Letter with detailed justification from the candidate, demonstrating their motivation for taking the course.
• Failure to submit all documents within the established deadline will result in disqualification of the application and loss of the spot.

15.  Understanding Zika and Emerging Diseases: Through this course, you will learn why so many diseases that have emerged recently are caused by viruses, how they arise and spread. We will see how disease-causing viruses come into contact with humans and how they spread, especially those transmitted by mosquitoes, such as the Dengue and Zika viruses. You will be able to identify how and where the Zika virus began to cause the current pandemic, understand how it circulates and what symptoms it causes in people in general and in pregnant women in particular, with emphasis on microcephaly. Understanding viruses is also essential, as we are currently living through a Coronavirus pandemic.

16.  Origins of Life in the Cosmic Context: Origins of life in the cosmic context is a course developed at the Institute of Astronomy, Geophysics, and Atmospheric Sciences of the University of São Paulo, aimed at presenting the latest scientific advances in understanding this intriguing subject.
