Significant Drops In Gasoline And Ethanol Prices Are Noticed, While Diesel Shows A Slight Increase.
During the week of June 12 to 18, fuel prices in Brazil presented a diverse picture. With national averages of R$ 5.532 for gasoline and R$ 3.791 for hydrated ethanol, both fuels experienced drops of 1.23% and 1.50% respectively. However, diesel did not follow the downward trend and showed a slight increase of 0.22%.
Gasoline And Ethanol: Relevant Drops
The information comes from ValeCard, a renowned fleet management company, which conducted a nationwide survey of fuel prices. These data were obtained through transactions made at approximately 25,000 fuel stations across the country.
The average price of a liter of gasoline in Brazil registered a decrease of 1.23% compared to the previous week (June 5 to 11). This decline represented a reduction of R$ 0.069 per liter.

“After two weeks of increases, gasoline prices finally dropped”, noted Brendon Rodrigues, Head of Innovation and Portfolio at ValeCard. He suggested that consumers might witness further declines in the coming days, as the price reduction recently announced by Petrobras will be gradually passed on.
It is noteworthy that on June 16, the new price of gasoline at Petrobras refineries came into effect, which has become R$ 2.6575 per liter, a reduction of approximately 4.3%.
Among the states, São Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Amazonas recorded the largest reductions in gasoline prices, with drops of 1.87%, 1.38%, and 1.30% respectively. On the other hand, ten states reported increases, with highlights for Acre, Paraná, and Rio Grande do Norte.
Ethanol: The Sixth Consecutive Week Of Decline
Hydrated ethanol, fuel used directly by vehicles, also followed a downward trend during the same week, with an average price of R$ 3.791 per liter. This represents a decrease of 1.50% compared to the previous week, when the average value was R$ 3.849.
“This was the sixth consecutive week of declines in hydrated ethanol prices, driven by the gradual reduction of this fuel at production plants”, explained Rodrigues.
Data from the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea) indicate that, despite weekly fluctuations, the production plants in São Paulo have reduced the price of a liter of hydrated ethanol by 3.25% since May 15.
ValeCard emphasizes that the use of hydrated ethanol is financially advantageous compared to gasoline when the price of a liter of the renewable fuel is equal to or less than 70% of the price of a liter of the fossil fuel.
Following this methodology, in the third week of June, refueling with ethanol proved to be more advantageous in Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, Paraná, and São Paulo.
