New Upgrade In The Operating System Of Volkswagen Cars Will Give Consumers Of The Brand A More Durable Use Of The Center
The software division of Volkswagen, Cariad, proposed an increase in the lifespan of the digital operating system contained in the brand’s vehicles, establishing a period of 15 years. The announcement came through an interview with Volkswagen’s CEO, Dirk Hilgenberg, who stated that the company is accelerating the cycle of planned obsolescence for vehicles, which is also happening in other sectors.
Additionally, Volkswagen is initiating its transition to Android Automotive OS, which will be adopted in vehicles from all brands of the group. The platform is already being used by other multinationals like Volvo and GM, and other multinationals like Stellantis, Honda, and Ford have also announced the adoption of the operating system.

With this, Volkswagen’s CEO further states that the 15-year lifespan of the vehicle operating system can vary, being at least 10 years and the maximum can exceed 15 years, since Volkswagen may have already made agreements with other companies to better serve vehicle owners for a longer time. The extended lifespan of the operating system especially applies to vehicles of brands like Porsche, Bugatti, and Lamborghini.
