Details of the construction of Navy ships in Santa Catarina
Estaleiro Brasil Sul – the new name of the Oceana shipyard, in Itajaí, which was acquired by the German Thyssemkrupp – is undergoing a revolution. The structure is being renovated to receive the construction of four ships ordered by the Brazilian Navy, a project worth R$ 9 billion. The first vessel already has a date to start leaving the paper. The steel sheets will begin to be cut in April next year.
The expectation is that the construction of the ships will generate 2 direct jobs at the height of construction, and up to XNUMX indirect jobs. For the time being, the hiring of employees for the production line has not been opened – but it is common for people to look for the shipyard to leave their CV.

City prepares for construction
Rodrigo Duarte, CEO of Itajaí Participações – a public company that promotes business in Itajaí – said that now is the time to seek local, regional and state partnerships to supply the construction of ships.
The municipality in Santa Catarina is still preparing infrastructure for the construction stage of the Navy's frigates. The movement of trucks around the shipyard, which is on the bank of the Itajaí-Açu River, should increase considerably. In December, for example, the arrival of 200 trucks loaded with steel for ships is expected.

At the end of May, the Special Committee on Naval and Offshore Industry of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj), chaired by deputy Célia Jordão, was encouraged by the expectation of job creation with the construction of frigates and ships -Patrol for the Navy in the state shipyards. This possibility was discussed during the technical visit to Emgepron and the Naval Technological Cluster.
Representatives of the public company in Rio de Janeiro, which manages naval industry projects, informed that the Navy needs 12 frigates. Of these, four are already under construction in the state of Santa Catarina, with up to 40% contracting local content. The other works may be brought to Rio de Janeiro, with the potential to generate jobs in the state.
The director-president of Emgepron, Admiral Edesio Teixeira, says that it has the capacity for intelligence and production, and that 90% of trade takes place by sea. According to him, bringing these Navy vessel construction works to the Rio de Janeiro demands a joint effort between them and the State Government. Teixeira says that the economy of the sea is fundamental for the development of Rio de Janeiro, which has full conditions to restructure itself in order to grow.
