Argentinian Decree Opens Space For Joint Training With U.S. Special Forces In Drills That Promised To Strengthen Regional Alliances And Bridge Buenos Aires With Washington
Argentina took a significant step in its defense policy and international relations by authorizing the entry of U.S. troops into its national territory. The decree, published in the Official Gazette this Tuesday (30), was signed by President Javier Milei and provides for the conduct of the military exercise “Tridente”, scheduled to take place between October 20 and November 15, 2025 at strategic points such as Mar del Plata, Ushuaia, and Puerto Belgrano.
According to the official text, the main objective is to expand tactical and strategic cooperation between the two countries, allowing for the exchange of procedures, techniques, and training tactics. Additionally, the measure reinforces Argentina’s positioning as a relevant actor in multinational operations while consolidating ties with Washington at a time of political and economic rapprochement.
“Tridente” Exercise Strengthens Argentina–U.S. Partnership
According to the decree, U.S. military personnel will have access to land and maritime areas of Argentina, focusing on special forces training and modern combat instruction. Argentina’s participation, as stated in the document, “demonstrates its commitment to regional stability and international security,” while standardizing operational procedures that will facilitate joint operations in future international missions.

Concurrently, the exercise “Solidariedade” is also scheduled to take place between October 6 and 10 in Puerto Varas, Chile, bringing together Argentine and Chilean troops in a bilateral defense agenda. This sequence of drills highlights a shift in Milei’s government towards intensive military cooperation in the Southern Cone.
The information was disclosed by CNN Brasil, which emphasized the political weight of the measure in a context of strategic negotiations between Buenos Aires and Washington.
Milei Bets On Rapprochement With Trump And Billion-Dollar Support
The signing of the decree coincides with an invitation made by U.S. President Donald Trump for Milei to visit the White House on October 14. The meeting is expected to serve as a showcase to solidify not only military ties but also billion-dollar economic support that Argentina seeks amid the fiscal crisis.
The Argentinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs classified the upcoming meeting as “a new opportunity to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries.” In this context, military exercises emerge as part of a larger agenda, where security and economy walk hand in hand to project Argentina as a preferential ally of the U.S. in the southern hemisphere.
Although the Argentine Constitution provides that it is up to Congress to approve the entry of foreign troops, the presidential decree was justified by the “exceptional naturalness of the situation,” allowing for immediate execution without following traditional procedures. This decision reinforces the straightforward and pragmatic style of Milei’s government, which has accelerated policies to reposition the country on the international geopolitical chessboard.
