Raymond Hager’s Story Highlights How a 94-Year and 176 Days Old Bus Driver Remains Active on the Streets of Wichita Falls, Maintaining a Routine of Almost Three Decades in Public Transport

Texan Raymond Hager was recognized by the Guinness World Records as the oldest bus driver in the world still in service.

The certification took place on May 13, when his age and service were verified, recording that he was 94 years and 176 days old while continuing to drive vehicles for the Wichita Falls transit system. The title solidified his presence in the local public service and highlighted his long tenure in the position.

An Early Journey of the Bus Driver

Hager told KFDX/KJTL that he started driving at 14 years old and quickly discovered his interest in larger vehicles.

The love for driving stayed with him throughout his life and, many years later, led him to join Falls Ride, the municipal transportation network of Wichita Falls. He has been working as a driver for approximately 27 years, maintaining a continuous routine and a direct connection to the daily operation of the service.

Change in Retirement Plans

He stated that he planned to retire at 95, but reconsidered his decision and chose to continue driving as long as he remains healthy and able. The shift in plans reinforced his willingness to stay at work, preserving a routine that has been part of his life for almost three decades.

City Recognition

The Wichita Falls administration decided to honor the bus driver by declaring November 18 as Raymond Hager Day.

The date was established to celebrate the achievement and highlight his importance to the city.

During the tribute, Hager expressed pride and gratitude for the accomplishment, stating that for someone who defines himself as a country boy, achieving something of this magnitude represents a special moment in his journey.
