The Brazilian Navy's Tonelero (S-42) submarine is already undergoing testing and promises to revolutionize Brazilian sovereignty and innovate the technology of the Brazilian Armed Forces, check out the details!
The Tonelero S-42 submarine, otthird of four other traditional propulsion models built by the Submarine Development Program (PROSUB) for the Brazilian Navy, has reached a fundamental milestone in its trajectory. Since Wednesday, November 27, the armed forces submarine began its first surface navigation completely independently, without the support of tugboats, in Sepetiba Bay.
Tests of the Brazilian Navy's Tonelero Submarine
This stage, which marks the technological advancement of the Brazilian Navy, will be conducted over five days and plays a strategic role in national defense.
During this operational test of the Tonelero (S 42) submarine, the vehicle will demonstrate the efficiency of its own propulsion, carrying out a set of fundamental checks to strengthen its military and operational capabilities.

The return to the dock of the Construction Shipyard (ESC) is scheduled for this Sunday, December 1st, after strict compliance with the planned activities. In this critical stage, the submarine Tonelero (S 42) of the Armed Forces will have its crew included in a series of activities to evaluate the performance of essential systems such as propulsion, navigation, steering and battery charging.
This data is crucial to prepare the submarine for its first Dynamic Immersion, which is expected to take place at the end of January next year. Additional tests on the combat, communication and cooling systems will be scheduled to ensure full functionality of the equipment before its next departure to sea.
This technical rigor reflects the Brazilian Navy's commitment to maintaining the readiness of its Armed Forces, ensuring submerged operations for up to five days with total safety and efficiency.
Tonelero S-42 submarine will be the closest to full operation
Carrying out these tests highlights the strategic role of PROSUB in upgrading Brazil's military defense capabilities, placing the country's armed forces among the world's leading maritime powers. With the completion of this phase, the Tonelero Submarine (S-42) will be the closest to reaching full operation and integration into the Brazilian Navy's Submarine Force Command.
In the coming months, the focus will be on adjusting and optimizing systems, preparing for embarkation on challenging missions that consolidate the Armed Forces and national defense.
According to José de Andrade Silva e Neto, ICN’s Sea Trip Leader and former submariner, the “J9” milestone represents important progress in the Tonelero (S-42) submarine project. By demonstrating its independent navigation capability and successfully performing multiple tests, the submarine has proven the excellence of its construction and the competence of the team involved.
All about the Armed Forces' new submarine
Measuring 71,62 meters long, 6,2 meters in diameter and 15 meters high, the Tonelero is the 5th submarine in the Brazilian Fleet and the 3rd with diesel-electric propulsion built entirely in Brazil.
The vehicle has a displacement capacity of 1.870 tons and can remain in operation for up to 70 days. The submarine was built to overcome a depth of 250 meters and reach a maximum speed of 37 km/h.
Inside, the Tonelero Submarine (S 42) can carry up to 35 people. Its current crew consists of 27 enlisted men and 8 Navy officers. The submarine has two hatches and is divided into 17 main compartments.
The new Brazilian Armed Forces equipment will be equipped with 6 turbocharged weapons capable of launching torpedoes, anti-ship missiles and mines. The submarine's Combat System also has acoustic, electro-optical and optical sensors, as well as electronic warfare equipment.
Urgency Urgency!
Very good, but it is not to add, but rather, to take the place of those who are being discharged.
