Many drivers wonder if additive gasoline has the power to clean the car’s throttle body. Understand how it really works in the fuel injection system and what its true impact is on the cleaning of the engine components.
The question is common: does additive gasoline help clean the throttle body (TB) of the engine? The short and direct answer is: no, it does not clean the TB directly. However, its use brings important benefits to the entire fuel system of the vehicle, helping to maintain cleanliness indirectly.
See how additive gasoline works, where it truly exerts its cleaning power, and what its role is in the health of the TB and other essential components of your car’s engine.
The Cleaning Action of Additive Gasoline: Where It Really Works in the Engine?
Additive gasoline contains detergents and dispersants that act in cleaning the system through which it passes. Its cleaning effect occurs throughout the fuel line, starting from the tank, passing through the distributor tube (where the fuel injectors are connected), and reaching the injectors themselves.

In cars with indirect injection systems, the fuel injectors are located in the intake manifold or cylinder head. Thus, additive gasoline cleans these injectors and, consequently, influences the cleanliness inside the combustion chamber. In vehicles with direct injection, the cleaning action of additive gasoline occurs directly in the combustion chamber, as the fuel is injected there. In neither case does the fuel pass directly through the TB to perform an active cleaning on it.
Additive Gasoline and the TB: An Indirect but Positive Effect on Cleaning
Although additive gasoline does not directly clean the throttle body, it contributes to keeping it clean for a longer time. This happens because, by promoting a more efficient and cleaner burn, the gases that can return from the engine to the intake system (and are responsible for dirtying the TB) become less harmful.
Consequently, the regular use of good additive gasoline helps reduce dirt buildup in the TB, but it is important to emphasize: it helps keep it clean, not to clean a TB that is already dirty.
General Benefits
Using quality additive gasoline results in a more efficient burn of the air/fuel mixture. This process is essential to help keep the entire intake system clean, including not only the TB indirectly but also the intake manifold, the intake ducts of the head, and the combustion chamber itself.
As a result, there is a lower tendency for carbon deposits to form (carbonization) in the engine, which contributes to smoother and more efficient vehicle operation in the long term.
The Real Villain of Dirt in the TB
It is crucial to understand that the main factor leading to the accumulation of dirt and sludge in the TB (Throttle Body) is oil vapors from the lubricant coming from the engine. This contamination can be aggravated by various factors.
Among them, the low quality of the lubricant oil used in the vehicle or the disregard for the appropriate oil change interval, as specified by the manufacturer or suited to the vehicle’s usage pattern. Other factors may also contribute to this problem.

Boa noite galera. Nossa quanta bobagem eu sou obrigado a ler.
