However, he has stated that he intends to donate 99% of this fortune by 2045, which helps explain why his wealth is gradually decreasing.

Why Is Bill Gates’ Fortune Declining?

The main reason lies in voluntary transfers to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, considered one of the largest philanthropic institutions in the world. In 2022 alone, Gates donated more than US$ 20 billion in assets, and reiterated that he will continue to reduce his personal wealth until only 1% remains.

Additionally, Bill Gates regularly invests in sustainable projects, public health, and social technologies, which, while generating positive impact, do not always yield direct financial returns. This explains why his position on Forbes’ ranking has fluctuated outside the top 10.
