Three major works in Rio Grande do Sul should be carried out following an agreement between the Minister of Infrastructure of Brazil and the Minister of Transport and Public Works of Uruguay
An agreement was signed this Monday (17th) between the Minister of Infrastructure of Brazil, Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas, and the Minister of Transport and Public Works of Uruguay for projects and works that will benefit both countries. The decision provides for the launch of a public notice for three projects: the construction of a new bridge over the Jaguarão River, the dredging and signaling of the Uruguay-Brazil waterway and the restoration of the Barão de Mauá Historic Bridge.

“Today an excellent step was taken in relations between Uruguay and Brazil with the integration of infrastructure agendas in both countries. From now on, we are going to call on other partner countries, such as Argentina and Paraguay, to establish goals so that this agenda can be put into effect and strengthen the economy on our borders”, said the minister of the infrastructure.
With investments of R$ 150 million, the construction of 12 km of the bridge over the Jaguarão River, located on the BR-116 Rio Grande do Sul, will be in charge of Brazil, according to the contract signed in 2013. It is estimated that the bidding for this work will take place this year 2020 so that the execution of the project takes place in 2021.
In addition, with the diversion of flow during the intervention works, the restoration of the Barão de Mauá Bridge is also planned, whose preliminary project for improvements has already been approved.
The dredging and signaling works on the waterway should allow the flow of the rice crop from the north of Uruguay to the port of Rio Grande (RS).
The environmental license was requested from the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) by the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT), and the bidding should take place next year.
