With the launch of the 2.2 Turbodiesel engine in 2024, Stellantis brings new features to the Fiat Toro and Jeep Commander, promising power and economy. This change marks an important step for the group, which replaces the old 2.0 and expands the models' capacity to face competitors.
The Brazilian pickup truck market has never been so hot, and the Fiat Toro promises to be the center of attention in 2024.
Starting in January, the model will feature the new 2.2 Turbodiesel engine, which recently debuted on the Fiat Rampage, a high-performance pickup truck from the brand.
With this, Toro intends to mark its territory and reinforce its presence in a competitive segment, saying goodbye to the 2.0 Turbodiesel engine, which has been used in Brazil since 2015.

The new feature also includes other models from the Stellantis group, which will follow in Fiat's footsteps to update their engines, such as the Jeep Commander, which has already announced the adoption of the 2.2 engine in the Overland version.
What changes with the new 2.2 Turbodiesel engine?
The introduction of the 2.2 Turbodiesel engine is not just an aesthetic update.
The Toro and Commander will now have a power unit capable of delivering an impressive 200 horsepower at 3.500 rpm and torque of 45,9 kgfm from 1.500 rpm.
According to Stellantis, this represents a significant increase in performance and efficiency compared to the old 2.0 engine, and promises to cater to an audience looking for both robustness and economy.
The new product, which should attract the attention of enthusiasts and industry experts, is set to renew the diesel-powered SUV and pickup segment.
According to sources close to the brand, the new 2.2 engine offers a more fluid driving experience, even on uneven terrain, as the power is distributed evenly between the axles, which also provides greater stability and safety at the wheel.
Commander also benefits from innovation
The Jeep Commander, the seven-seater SUV produced in Pernambuco, is another model that will receive the new engine in 2024.
After the collective end-of-year holidays, Stellantis will begin production of the new Overland version with the updated engine, maintaining the diesel option only in this configuration.
Like the Toro, the Commander will feature a nine-speed automatic transmission and a 14% longer differential, a factor that, according to experts, helps reduce engine rotation at different speeds, increasing economy without compromising 4×4 traction capacity.
This feature, which also debuted on the Rampage pickup, offers an even better experience on steep inclines and descents, thanks to the Hill Descent Control.
Stellantis paves the way for the 2026 Titano with new mechanical features
Stellantis already has plans outlined for the launch of Fiat Titano 2026, a pickup truck that will be manufactured in Argentina and that will also have the 2.2 Turbodiesel engine in its range of versions.
Scheduled for the first four months of 2025, the new model will be equipped with the same 2.2 engine, but will feature an update to the automatic transmission, which will go from six to eight gears.
The six-speed manual option will continue to be available, ensuring that the Titano caters to both those who prefer automatic transmission and those who prioritize manual driving.
This configuration will be intended for versions with 4×2 and 4×4 traction, options that have been traditional in Fiat's line for the Latin American market.
According to internal sources at Stellantis, the intention is to keep Titano aligned with performance and economy trends, characteristics highly valued by the public in the region.
Doubts surround the future of the diesel-powered Compass
One question that remains unanswered involves the Jeep Compass, another popular Stellantis model.
Brazilian dealerships have already stopped accepting orders for the Compass 2.0 Turbodiesel, which creates uncertainty about the future of the diesel-powered model.
If the Compass receives the new 2.2 Turbodiesel, it is speculated that this will only occur in the Limited version, which would maintain the exclusive engine to meet a specific public demand.
So far, Stellantis has not confirmed whether the Compass will adopt the new engine, leaving a possible restructuring of the brand's diesel line in the air.
This possible adjustment may be reflected in the sales strategy and options offered to the Brazilian market in 2024.
Power and economy in favor of the consumer
The addition of the 2.2 Turbodiesel engine promises to raise the level of Stellantis vehicles in Brazil and Latin America.
Models such as the Jeep Commander, Fiat Toro and the future Titano represent the brand's commitment to offering vehicles with powerful and efficient engines, meeting the needs of demanding consumers who seek not only strength, but also adequate fuel consumption.
The move to replace the old 2.0 with the 2.2 Turbodiesel engine marks a transition phase for Stellantis in Brazil, where the brand seeks to strengthen its position in the diesel SUV and pickup market, a growing sector.
Now, it remains to be seen how the Brazilian public will respond to these changes and what Stellantis' next steps will be on its innovation journey.
I would like to buy this car, I loved it. I would really like to know the value of the car and I would like to know if it is all leather inside and if the car runs on fuel and gasoline, ok.
I would like to buy and have it delivered as soon as possible, ok?
The color is what is appearing on the car now ok….thanks
Go back to school, have you ever thought about stopping being a functional ****?
I have a 2023 turbo diesel ranch, I'm definitely waiting for this 2.2 horsepower 200 engine, the car is great, I already had a 2019 turbo diesel Vulcano for me, it serves me very well both on trips with comfort and stability and great for dirt roads, it brings great comfort too.
I have a Volcano 2.0 Turbo Diesel and I wouldn't trade it for any other, because I always keep up with maintenance, use diesel additives due to biodiesel, change fuel and air filters well ahead of schedule and it does 12,5 to 13,5 in the city and up to 19,0 on the highway; it's a 2017 model with 74.000 km. This 2.2 that's there seems like a great option if I were to trade it in, but no other brand offers comfort, quality and economy like the Toro. I really like the Montana, but it's lacking in terms of engine, since a diesel engine requires a load capacity of 1 ton.
