Omoda 5 HEV Received Adjustments from Brazilian Engineering to Improve Handling, Efficiency, Robustness, and Adaptation to Fuel and the Roads of Brazil.
The Omoda 5 HEV, a newly launched compact hybrid SUV by OMODA & JAECOO in Brazil, is a direct result of extensive Brazilian engineering applied to a global project. The model was developed to elevate the segment standard by combining the efficiency typical of electric vehicles with the power of a 1.5 turbo combustion engine, creating a balanced solution between performance, economy, and driving pleasure.
Although it maintains international architecture and design, the Omoda 5 HEV underwent an extensive local adaptation process led by the brand’s engineering team in Brazil. The goal was clear: to adjust the vehicle to the real driving conditions, to the national fuel, and to the driving style of Brazilian consumers, without compromising the global standard of the project.
Brazilian Engineering Adjusts Suspension for Local Terrain
One of the central focuses of local development was the suspension system. The Omoda 5 HEV maintained the original design with fully independent suspension, using McPherson in the front and multilink in the rear — a solution typically found in higher categories.

With a 1.3 engine, nearly 700 km of range, and Turbo 200, the Fiat model surpasses Polo, Tera HB20, and Onix, becoming the best-selling car in March; see the numbers for the Fiat Strada and others.
This setup ensures high levels of comfort, stability, and grip by utilizing multiple independent arms on the rear axle to keep the wheels in optimal contact with the ground. The result is a more stable ride, with better impact absorption and suspension geometry control over different types of terrain.
In addition to the architecture, Brazilian engineering worked on the specific calibration of springs and shock absorbers, with loads adapted to road conditions in different regions of the country. The adjustment resulted in a firmer suspension, with better body control, stability in curves, and safety on uneven surfaces, delivering handling aligned with the preferences of Brazilian drivers.
Hybrid System Calibration Considers Fuel and Terrain of Brazil
During the local testing phase, OMODA & JAECOO engineers made detailed adjustments to the system comprising the engine, transmission, and battery management.
The focus was to adapt the hybrid system to the characteristics of Brazilian fuel (E30) and to the variations in topography found across the country.
This refined calibration resulted in noticeable improvements in handling, system response, and levels of NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness). Additionally, it brought direct gains in energy efficiency, reflected in lower fuel consumption in real use.
The model has become one of the most efficient in its segment, with an energy consumption of 1.50 megajoule per kilometer, according to data from Inmetro.
Considering durability, the fuel system also received additional corrosion protections, using materials more resistant to the chemical properties of ethanol, ensuring greater longevity of components and reliability in the long term.
Increased Ground Clearance Enhances Versatility in Daily Use
Another adaptation developed specifically for the Brazilian market was the increase in ground clearance. This change is essential to better handle speed bumps, potholes, poorly paved streets, and secondary roads, situations common in the urban and highway reality of the country.
With this modification, the Omoda 5 HEV enhances its versatility of use without compromising comfort, stability, or energy efficiency.
A Hybrid Designed for the Brazilian Consumer
The final result is a hybrid SUV that combines global design, advanced technology, and local engineering, offering a driving experience that is comfortable, efficient, and safe, with behavior close to that of an electric vehicle, while maintaining the power, strength, and dynamism of a combustion engine. It represents a balanced union of two worlds, just as the Brazilian consumer expects.
With the Omoda 5 HEV, OMODA & JAECOO reinforces its commitment to developing products tailored to local reality while maintaining the standard of a world-class vehicle but with sensitivity to usage conditions and market preferences in Brazil.
“The Omoda 5 is the result of synchronized work between Brazilian and Chinese engineering. We maintained the essence of the global project while carefully adjusting sensitive details to deliver a car that truly connects with the way of driving, the fuel, and the driving conditions in Brazil.
At all times, our question was: what does the Brazilian consumer expect from a hybrid vehicle?” says Henrique Buzzanelli, head of Engineering and Homologation at OMODA & JAECOO Brazil.
Currently, OMODA & JAECOO offers the Omoda 5 HEV in Brazil in a portfolio focused on efficiency, technology, and design. The model is available in the Luxury version, starting at R$ 159,990, and Prestige, for R$ 184,990, and can be found at the 70 dealerships of the brand across 24 Brazilian states.
