BYD Dolphin Mini Runs Up to 405 Km Per Charge and Costs Less Per Km Than Any Combustion Car in Brazil; Understand Why Electric Became the “King of Economy”.

The Brazilian electric car market is undergoing a historic change, and it comes from a compact, lightweight, affordable, and extremely efficient model. The BYD Dolphin Mini — the national version of the Chinese Seagull — arrived in Brazil in 2024 and has since become the main disruption point in the segment: for the first time, an electric vehicle with an urban proposal offers an affordable price, solid range, and the lowest cost per kilometer driven in the country. And this is without sacrificing safety, performance, or onboard technology.

Today, considering the average price practiced at dealerships and on the official website, the Dolphin Mini can be found below R$ 115 thousand, less than a 2018 or 2019 used Toyota Corolla, which usually ranges from R$ 115 thousand to R$ 130 thousand in the used car market. And it is precisely this combination of efficiency, price, and autonomy that has led users to nickname the model as “the king of electric economy”.

Range of Up to 405 Km and Battery Designed to Last

The Dolphin Mini uses the renowned Blade battery, a proprietary technology from BYD that has already become a reference for thermal safety and durability. In the Chinese CLTC cycle — equivalent to light urban parameters — the hatch delivers up to 405 km of range, and in the Brazilian cycle, based on real use, it ranges between 300 and 350 km, numbers that already surpass urban rivals and even much more expensive models.

This range positions the Mini as one of the most efficient electric options in the country in the entry-level segment. In practical terms, it means a typical user can drive three to five days without recharging, even using the car in mixed urban traffic, uphill, and with the air conditioning on. In light routines, such as short urban trips, there are real reports from owners who reach up to a week of use without visiting a socket.

The Lowest Cost Per Km Driven in Brazil

The great differential of the Dolphin Mini is its operational cost. A full charge costs, on average, between R$ 22 and R$ 30 in common residential tariffs. Considering an average range of 300 km, the cost per kilometer ranges between R$ 0.07 and R$ 0.10 — less than the approximately R$ 0.40 to R$ 0.50 of an efficient 1.0 flex car running on gasoline.

In other words:

  • Driving 1,000 km with gasoline costs between R$ 400 and R$ 500.
  • Driving 1,000 km with the Dolphin Mini costs up to R$ 90.

This impact changes the lives of app drivers, delivery workers, small merchants, and consumers who simply want to escape the rising costs of fuel.

This is compounded by reduced vehicle tax (in some states), cheaper maintenance, and the absence of mechanical items such as transmission and exhaust, establishing the Mini as the electric vehicle with the best cost-benefit in the country.

Surprisingly Technological Interior for an Affordable Electric

On the outside, the Dolphin Mini looks simple. But just stepping inside clarifies why the model garnered so much attention in Brazil. The compact hatch offers:

  • Rotating multimedia center of 12.8 inches
  • Digital panel of 7 inches
  • Traction and stability control
  • Lane-keeping assist
  • Cruise control
  • Electric steering
  • Adjustable regeneration system
  • Digital air conditioning
  • Keyless entry

For an electric vehicle costing less than R$ 115 thousand, it’s an above-average package and superior to many combustion compact cars with a similar price.

Urban Performance That Is Efficient and Safe

The front electric motor delivers 75 hp and 13.8 kgfm of instant torque, which ensures quick accelerations in traffic and rapid responses at the wheel.

It is not a sports car, but it perfectly fulfills its urban role with strong starts at traffic lights and good performance for climbs.

In terms of safety, the model impresses: the BYD Seagull — the global version of the Dolphin Mini — received five stars in C-NCAP, a reference Chinese agency with strict criteria for occupant protection and side impact.

The Dolphin Mini is not just an affordable electric. It marks the entrance of a new era in Brazil: accessible, technological, and sustainable cars beginning to compete for space with traditional 1.0 compacts and winning in cost per kilometer, maintenance, comfort, and technology.

This is why the model gained such a reputation so quickly. It delivers real savings, solid range, modern package, and competitive price all together, something that Brazilian consumers have never had access to in the entry-level electric segment.

The Question That Remains

With the BYD Dolphin Mini offering so much for so little, who is still worth buying a combustion car in the R$ 100 thousand range? The market is now starting to catch up.

My husband was diagnosed of Parkinsons disease 2 years ago, when he was 49. He had a stooped posture, tremors, right arm does not move and also a pulsating feeling in his body. He was placed on Senemet for 8 months and then Sifrol was introduced and replaced the Senemet, during this time span he was also diagnosed with dementia. He started having hallucinations, lost touch with reality. Suspecting it was the medication I took him off the Siferol (with the doctor’s knowledge) and started him on PD-5 natural herbal formula we ordered from AKNNI HERBAL CENTRE, his symptoms totally declined over a 3 weeks use of the AKANNI HERBAL Parkinson’s disease natural herbal formula. He is now almost 51 and doing very well, the disease is totally reversed!
