Workers who have completed at least six months of formal employment and were dismissed without just cause may be entitled to unemployment insurance. The number of unemployment insurance installments is defined by the length of employment and the number of times the benefit has already been requested, according to data from the Ministry of Labor and Employment, cited by Estadão.
In the case of those applying for the third time or more, six months of work is sufficient to qualify for the benefit. However, the amount and the number of installments change according to the current rules, which aim to cater to different profiles of workers.
Who Is Entitled to Unemployment Insurance
The benefit is intended for those who were dismissed without just cause, do not have another source of income, and do not receive continuing benefit from Social Security. At the time of applying, the worker must be unemployed and present the request issued by the employer at the time of termination.

What Is the Value of the Benefit
The minimum amount paid is R$ 1,518, equivalent to the minimum wage in 2025, and the ceiling reaches R$ 2,424.11. To calculate the benefit, the government considers the average of the last three salaries received before dismissal, applying the brackets and percentages defined by law:
- Up to R$ 2,138.76: average salary multiplied by 0.8
- From R$ 2,138.77 to R$ 3,564.96: add R$ 1,711.01 to 50% of the amount that exceeds R$ 2,138.76
- Above R$ 3,564.96: fixed amount of R$ 2,424.11
How to Apply for Unemployment Insurance
The application can be made in three ways:
- Online: through the gov.br portal or the Digital Work Card app
- In Person: at Ministry of Labor units, with an appointment by phone 158
- Authorized Posts: as indicated by the responsible agency
