An incident caused by strong winds in Spanish Port leaves passengers injured aboard the cruise ship Britannia after it collides with an oil tanker.
The cruise ship Britannia, operated by P&O Cruises, found itself in a delicate situation last Sunday (27/08), when it collided with an oil tanker in the port of Palma de Mallorca, Spain. O accident occurred while the cruise was docked, however, strong winds managed to loosen it from its mooring lines, resulting in a collision with an oil transport vessel, according to the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands.

Hundreds of tourists were on board the Britannia at the time of the collision, according to information from P&O Cruises.
The company released a statement stating that the incident was related to adverse weather conditions.

Additionally, P&O Cruises noted that only a "small number of people sustained minor injuries" and that those passengers were promptly treated at the ship's medical center.
The collision occurred during an intense storm, marked by wind gusts of up to 112 kilometers per hour, according to data provided by AccuWeather.
The structural damage suffered by the Britannia was considerable, leading the authorities to order an early return to the English city of Southampton, the cruise's departure point.

To ensure everyone's safety, it was decided that the ship would return with a reduced passenger capacity.
The Britannia, which had started its voyage on August 18, had scheduled a round-trip itinerary, passing through destinations such as Cádiz and Ibiza, before the incident took place.
“A limited number of guests and crew on board have been advised that they will be leaving the ship and returning to Southampton (or the point of departure) by flight and transfer. Guests remaining onboard will be able to enjoy the entertainment and activities scheduled for the remainder of the voyage.”
