The Duplication Of One Of The Busiest Sections Of Interior Sao Paulo Will Transform Regional Mobility. The Washington Luís Highway Will Undergo Major Works In The Coming Months.
The Government Of São Paulo announced the beginning of the expansion works of the Washington Luís Highway (SP-310), in the São José do Rio Preto region. The interventions will start in April and will directly impact the municipalities of Cedral, São José do Rio Preto, and Mirassol.
The planned investment is R$ 455 million. The execution will be carried out by the concessionaire Ecovias Noroeste Paulista, under the supervision of Artesp. The forecast is for everything to be completed in the second half of 2027.
Marginals, Third Lane, And New Viaducts
The package of works includes the construction of 15.8 km of marginal lanes. These marginals will be implemented between km 436 and km 446, within the urban section of São José do Rio Preto. There will also be works at km 425, in Cedral, and near km 448, in Mirassol.

In addition, 26.3 km of a third lane is planned. This new lane will be built between km 428 and 436 and also between km 444 and 452. For the most part, the third lane will be located in the central median of the highway.
Another highlight is the complete redesign of the intersection with the Transbrasiliana Highway (BR-153). The project includes new access ramps and return viaducts. Access to São José do Rio Preto will also undergo improvements.
In total, 11 viaducts will be constructed in the section between Cedral and Mirassol. These structures are intended to serve both the main traffic and the new marginals, organizing the flow and avoiding conflicts between local and long-distance vehicles.
Safety And Development
The Secretary of Partnerships In Investments of the State, Rafael Benini, emphasized that the project will help to resolve long-standing bottlenecks in the region. According to him, the project improves traffic flow and boosts regional development.
Another expected benefit is the increase in road safety. With the separation between urban and long-distance vehicles, the trend is a reduction in accidents. The third lane should also reduce the risk of dangerous overtaking.
During the works, the concessionaire will implement traffic signaling and management measures. The idea is to maintain flow in the lanes that are not affected. The population will be notified in advance of any road closures.
Digital channels, local press, and signaling on the highway will be used to inform drivers and residents. The goal is to ensure safety and minimize disruption during the execution of the works.
Expansion Also In São Carlos
Ecovias Noroeste Paulista will also operate in the São Carlos region. Construction of a third lane on SP-310, between km 227.8 and 242.5, will begin in 2025. This work is scheduled for completion in April 2027.
With this, the government expands the presence of improvements in strategic sections of the highway. The focus remains on increasing the capacity of the road and making traffic safer and more efficient.
More Investments In The Road Network
The São Paulo government also announced new investments in other highways in the region. Ecovias Noroeste Paulista recently took over the management of 156 km of roads that were previously under the responsibility of the TEBE concessionaire.
Among the sections now under new management are parts of the Brigadeiro Faria Lima Highway (SP-326), Comendador Pedro Monteleone Highway (SP-351), and the José Della Vechia and Orlando Chesini Ometto Highways (SP-323).
The planned improvements in these sections include the duplication of 55 km of SP-351 and the construction of seven new access points on SP-323. There will also be adjustments to the marginals of SP-326, especially in the section that passes through Barretos.
Accessibility works are also planned, with the construction and refurbishment of pedestrian footbridges. The goal is to facilitate safe movement at crossing points on the highways.
Duplication Until 2040
Another highlight presented by Secretary Rafael Benini was the duplication of the Laurentino Mascari Highway (SP-333), between Taquaritinga and Borborema. The section passes through Itápolis.
This work will be divided into two phases. The first will take place between 2025 and 2028. The second is scheduled to happen between 2037 and 2040. The goal is to prepare the region for the expected population and economic growth in the coming decades.
