OEC Will Build Reservoir and New Cedae Pipelines, in Addition to Capacity for 55,000 Cubic Meters and Nearly Five Kilometers of Pipelines

The government of the state of Rio de Janeiro has green-lighted the construction of the New Guandu water production system, the Novo Marapicú reservoir, and five kilometers of pipelines in Nova Iguaçu, in the municipality of Baixada Fluminense. Cedae has made an investment in the necessary infrastructure (Companhia de Águas e Esgotos do Estado do Rio de Janeiro). OEC – Engineering and Construction will be responsible for the construction of the facility, which will have a storage capacity of 55,000 cubic meters.

More than three million people in the cities of Nova Iguaçu, Duque de Caxias, São João de Meriti, Nilópolis, and Belford Roxo, in addition to the capital of the state of Rio de Janeiro, will benefit from the system aimed at increasing the supply of treated water to Baixada Fluminense, ensuring operational security and agility to the Guandu system.

Specificities of the System to be Executed by OEC

The treated water pipeline, with a length of 3,900 meters and a diameter of 2.5 meters, will transport water pumped from the New Guandu ETA to the reservoir. The distribution trunk will have a diameter of 2.5 meters and a total length of about one thousand meters. It will connect the reservoir to the main pipeline of Baixada Fluminense. The total length of the spillway is 940 meters, and its width is 1.5 meters; it directs water from the reservoir to the canal on Ingá Street.

Carbon steel will be used in the design of all these buildings. Building Information Modeling (BIM) will be used to support the work, and it is a collection of procedures and tools that enable a radical digital transformation from the design phase to the asset management phase.

The project’s duration is 30 months, with a projected budget of R$ 278 million and an expected start in February 2023. The forecast is for 400 workers and about 46 pieces of equipment at peak production.

“All of us here in Rio de Janeiro are excited to have the opportunity to contribute to a project that will have such a positive effect on the city’s residents. We are happy to be part of this important Cedae project that will improve the lives of many people,” highlights OEC’s Contracts Director, Rogério Dourado.
