New Electric Bike From Angell Features A Camouflaged Battery That Helps Maintain A Cleaner Look While Aiding Aerodynamics

The Angell, a French startup, is emerging as a new competitor in the electric bike market. To differentiate itself from other manufacturers, its models feature a slimmer look, similar to conventional bicycles.

The M Rapide, for instance, the newest addition to the company’s stylish electric bike line, maintains this contemporary design trend. To achieve this, the model incorporates a design trick to hide the battery and make it appear as natural as possible.

The manufacturer claims that the bike was created with aerodynamics in mind and that this difference in battery placement plays a crucial role in that aspect. The decision of where to install the battery was considered not only for a more conventional appearance but also for aerodynamics.

Unlike other electric bikes today, the M Rapide’s battery is not immediately obvious. The battery is discreetly “hidden” in a designated casing that extends over the rear tire.

This arrangement allows its frame to be thinner than other e-bikes, which also helps with aerodynamics, according to the company.

The “camouflaged” battery actually serves additional functions, including housing two rear lights that operate both as a brake light and as a turn signal, functioning like the rear indicator of a regular motorcycle.

Angell’s Electric Bike Features A 250-Watt Motor, But Has Its Top Speed Limited To 25 Km/H

In terms of overall performance, Angell’s electric bike is equipped with a 250-watt motor that acts as an assistive device to make pedaling more comfortable. The legal maximum speed for riding electric bikes on roads and sidewalks is 25 kilometers per hour (km/h). Therefore, the speed of the M Rapide is limited to that.

There is also a dedicated app that allows various vehicle settings to be adjusted via a mobile phone, something that is also trending in the world of electric bicycles. The handlebars themselves feature a small integrated LCD screen where information related to autonomy, battery charge, among others, can be viewed.

Speaking of the battery, it provides a range of fifty kilometers on a single charge. This is not an unexpectedly high amount, given the price range of the electric bike. The fact that the component can be removed is a positive development, as it makes it simpler for the owner to charge it, for example, if they live in an apartment.

The manufacturer also offers a warranty that covers total loss, including in case of theft, during the first two years of ownership. Angell will ensure a replacement. The M Rapide costs 2,740 euros, which is considered expensive, around R$ 15,000 in direct conversion.
