Multinational Volkswagen is not at all satisfied with the electric copy of the Beetle shamelessly made by Great Wall Motors
Chinese industry still hasn't let go of some old habits, and Chinese automaker Great Wall Motors appears to have little regard for Volkswagen, even after the German automaker and its lawyers previously said they were investigating plagiarism from electric car maker ORA, of the Great Wall Motors group, for presenting a Beetle clone at the Shanghai Auto Show. Initially named the ORA Punk Cat and recently renamed the Ballet Cat, the vehicle unabashedly shares the same traits as VW's iconic car, and this story is sure to make waves.

The proof that the Great Wall Motors Group is challenging the German automaker is that the official launch in China of its 'new' electric vehicles, ORA Ballet and the Punk Cat (the Chinese electric beetle), is scheduled for March 30th of this year. year.
It is possible to notice, in the video above, that ORA was inspired – not to say that it blatantly copied – in the traits of the Volkswagen Beetle in its new Ballet Cat. The hood with a curved design, the rounded headlights and the rear design, complete with oval taillights, refer to the old beetle.

The Ballet Cat's interior is also reminiscent of the Beetle, as it is equipped with a three-spoke steering wheel and circular instruments and dials. Despite the retro footprint, the interior offers a multimedia screen and cantilevered center console. Local pricing details are yet to be confirmed.
When the Ballet Cat – called the Punk Cat at the time – was first shown, VW acknowledged that it was investigating the matter “in relation to any infringements of utility model or design rights by Volkswagen AG and reserves the right to take the necessary legal measures”. It's unclear whether the automaker will pursue any legal action.
Chinese automaker challenges Volkswagen and clones the iconic Kombi shortly after shamelessly manufacturing an electric copy of the Beetle!
As if it wasn't enough that they chlorinated the Beetle, another Chinese automaker, SongSang Motors, made a clone of the iconic Kombi. Will it give "mango cloth"? The Chinese automaker has launched a new model inspired by an existing one. In this case, it is the SongSang Motors that presented the SS Summer, a van with a retro design clearly based on the Volkswagen Kombi or Type 2, as seen below.
It's not new that the Chinese create clones
Last year, the Chinese brand Wey wasted no time and 'cloned' the Ford Bronco, five days after the launch of the American brand's SUV in 2020. Wey is also part of the group Great Wall Motors, the same person responsible for creating the electric 'Beetle'.
The Chinese brand Foton Big General presented, also last year, an identical copy of the Ford F-150 Raptor pickup. See 'Chinese invention' below.
