New Entry Version of the Electric Hatchback is Produced in Camaçari (BA) and Enables IPI and ICMS Exemption via Direct Sale for PCD, Taxi Drivers, and Rural Producers.
BYYD launched the Dolphin Mini GL, manufactured in Camaçari, and opened the direct sales channel in Brazil. With exemptions and discounts, the price can drop from R$ 118,990 to R$ 98,590 for taxi drivers, repositioning the model in the market.
According to BYD itself, the PCD audience pays R$ 99,990 and microenterprises/CNPJs or rural producers have a suggested price of R$ 107,091. The retail price remains at R$ 118,990 in conventional retail. The conditions took effect on October 16, 2025.
The move comes after the start of local assembly, which unlocks IPI and ICMS exemptions for eligible categories. The strategy makes the GL an “entry point” for electrified vehicles and pressures direct competitors in the segment.

How Much Does the BYD Dolphin Mini GL Cost in 2025
For traditional retail, the suggested public price is R$ 118,990. It is the official reference announced by the manufacturer, without specific subsidies. The value serves as a basis for comparison with other versions and rivals.
In the direct sales channel, microenterprises, CNPJs, and rural producers receive a 10% discount, bringing the price to R$ 107,091. The logic is commercial and does not require exemption from state taxes to apply to the order.
For PCD, with IPI and ICMS exemptions, the effective price is R$ 99,990. Taxi drivers can secure R$ 98,590, the lowest announced price, making the GL the cheapest electric vehicle in the country for these profiles.
Direct Sales and Exemptions: Why Did the Price Drop So Much
BYD opened the direct sales channel by announcing national production, allowing purchases with tax exemptions when provided by law. The benefit is conditional on the buyer’s eligibility.
According to CNN Brasil, the combination of IPI and ICMS exemptions reduces the final price for PCD and taxi drivers, which explains the drop below R$ 100,000. The policy is part of the brand’s volume strategy.
Production in Camaçari (BA) and the Nationalization Strategy
The assembly in Camaçari (BA) was confirmed by the brand and specialized vehicles. Nationalization reduces logistics costs and enables direct sales under local tax regulations.
According to industry reports, local production is the trigger to expand the network and accelerate deliveries. With scale, BYD aims to establish the Mini as the volume leader among urban electrics.
This arrangement also prepares the brand for future versions and state incentives, preserving competitiveness in price ranges sensitive to consumers.
Range, Battery, and Charging: What Changes in the GL Version
The major change in the GL is the smaller battery, with 30.08 kWh, offering a range of up to 250 km by Inmetro, which is still attractive and ahead of competing models like the Kwid E-Tech. The motor remains at 75 hp and 13.8 kgfm, focusing on urban use.
Charging continues with 6.6 kW in AC and up to 30 kW in DC, an adequate standard for daily routines. The 38 kWh version remains in the portfolio, with a 280 km homologated range.
BYD highlights the Blade Battery (LFP) and the thermal security package, already known in the Mini. The GL preserves the e-Platform 3.0 architecture and prioritizes cost and energy efficiency.
The GL retains disc brakes on all four wheels, traction and stability control, and six airbags. There are also full-LED headlights, automatic air conditioning, and keyless entry. The set remains competitive.
Declared dimensions for the Mini include 3.78 m in length and 2.50 m in wheelbase, with a trunk capacity of 230 liters. These are typical measurements for an urban hatchback focusing on maneuverability. The package also offers cruise control and electronic parking brake with Auto Hold, features that are uncommon among combustion subcompacts at the same price.
Quick Comparison: Kwid E-Tech Stays Below R$ 100,000 in Retail
Renault kept the Kwid E-Tech starting at R$ 99,990 in retail after the 2026 update, but with 180 km of range according to Inmetro. It serves as a price anchor outside the direct sales channel.
In conventional retail, the PPS of the Dolphin Mini GL is R$ 118,990, above the Kwid. However, in direct sales, the GL drops to R$ 99,990 (PCD) and R$ 98,590 (taxi drivers), becoming the cheapest for these groups.
