The installed capacity of distributed solar generation (DG) in Brazil exceeded 2.3 GW, according to Aneel’s statistics, the regulator of the energy sector. The overall capacity of DG in the country surpassed 2.5 GW on Thursday night, with solar energy being the most popular source in this segment, counting 200,942 systems connected to the grid.

Minas Gerais is the state with the most DG connections – 42,549, followed by São Paulo with 32,548 and Rio Grande do Sul with 27,874. Residential consumers represent the majority of the total DG solar installations with 145,920 systems. Commercial and rural installations follow behind with 36,086 and 13,040, respectively. Since 2012, more than BRL 11.9 billion (US $ 2.5 billion / EUR 2.2 billion) have been invested in this segment, reported the newspaper Valor Econômico citing data from the Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association (ABSOLAR).
