It Was Signed on Tuesday (30) by the Federal Government a Protocol That Allows the Automatic Registration of Low-Income Families in the Social Energy Tariff. Benefited Families Can Get a Discount of Up to 65% on the Electricity Bill
All low-income families registered in federal government social programs will be automatically included as beneficiaries of the Social Energy Tariff. In this way, more than 11.5 million families will have the opportunity to receive the benefit, with a discount of up to 65% on the monthly electricity bill, joining the more than 12 million low-income families that already use the discount. The protocol allowing the registration of these families was signed on Tuesday (30). The document was signed in Brasília, at the headquarters of the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel), and the event was attended by the current president, Jair Bolsonaro, and many other ministers.

Federal Government Talks About the Benefit for Low-Income Families
Previously, it was necessary for each family receiving government programs to individually request the Social Energy Tariff benefit, which delayed and complicated the process, as many were in humble situations. For President Jair Bolsonaro, the immediate benefit is the simplification of the process, benefiting the largest number of low-income families through benefit transfer initiatives.
According to the president, what has been done since he took office in 2019 is the reduction of bureaucracy. Brazilians are living in a period that everyone hopes is post-pandemic, where the consequences of the measures used in the past to combat coronavirus have led to this situation of rising inflation.

São Paulo has connected its two airports by rail for the first time in history, and now you can travel by train from Congonhas to Guarulhos for just R$ 5.40. The savings of Brazilians are depleting: savings accounts recorded the third consecutive month of withdrawals, with over R$ 41 billion taken out in the first quarter of 2026, the largest outflow in an entire year.
Measures like these are aimed at the poorest, as Brazil generated more formal jobs even during the most critical year of the pandemic. Thus, the most vulnerable and humble are reached by the Social Energy Tariff, with a reduction in the electricity bill.
More Jobs Being Created Even Amid the Pandemic
The president highlighted that, in addition to the benefit on the electricity bill through the Social Energy Tariff, there has been a significant increase in the number of jobs created, despite the country recently coming out of a global economic crisis caused by the pandemic.
Bolsonaro states that, in 2015 and 2016, without a pandemic, Brazil lost 2.5 million jobs, and the current government, even amid the pandemic, has already generated 2.5 million jobs.
Bolsonaro emphasized: This is the work of everyone, not just mine, of the secretaries, of the ministers, but of all the public servants who collaborate with the federal government in this endeavor. “We have everything to be a great Nation and we will be, God willing,” concluded the president.
Who Will Be Able to Receive the Benefit of the Electricity Bill Reduction?
The criteria for receiving the Social Energy Tariff remain the same. Low-income families registered in CadÚnico with a monthly income equal to or less than half the minimum wage per capita will be eligible, as well as families with a member who has a condition requiring an electrical device for treatment, but in this case, the family may have a monthly per capita income of up to three minimum wages. Families with a member receiving the Continuous Cash Benefit may also be selected for the benefit.
