After Investments Announced by Embraer and Azul, It Is Now Gol Linhas Aéreas’ Turn to Enter the Electric Flying Cars Market. The Company Is Acquiring 250 eVTOLs
After Embraer and Azul announced investments, it is now Gol Linhas Aéreas’ turn, which informed this Tuesday (21) that it intends to purchase 250 electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, the famous electric flying cars. The company signed an agreement with Avalon, via Grupo Comporte, which belongs to Gol’s controlling shareholder. Just like the contracts from Embraer or Azul, the expectation is that the electric flying cars will arrive around mid-2025.

The agreement involves VA-X4 eVTOL aircraft, created by Vertical Aerospace, one of the most updated models in the electric flying car market. On September 15, Gol announced to the market that it would receive an investment of US$ 200 million from American Airlines, a major American aviation company.
The two companies will also expand the flight-sharing agreement. The agreement is part of Gol’s strategy to become more present in regional air transportation, following the purchase of MAP in June, which operates in the North of the country up to São Paulo. The electric flying cars that Gol intends to buy have a capacity for one pilot and up to four passengers, with a range of up to 160 kilometers at a speed of 320 km/h.

Initially, Gol Linhas Aéreas will conduct a feasibility study, which includes aircraft certification by the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac), which must also evaluate the infrastructure required for the use of electric flying cars in the country, alongside other entities in the aviation sector. Avalon anticipates that the VA-X4 certification process in the country will be completed by 2024.
Embraer, One of the Largest eVTOL Manufacturers
Embraer is currently one of the big names when it comes to electric flying cars. In June, the company closed a partnership with Halo for the development of Urban Air Mobility services and other products in the UK and the US.
The partnership between Embraer and Halo includes an order for 200 eVTOL units. Deliveries are expected to start in 2026. According to Embraer, this order was the largest in the urban air mobility sector at the time.
Additionally, the agreement also stipulates that Halo will work alongside Embraer in developing a new operation of electric flying cars in the previously mentioned countries.
In August, Azul signed a letter of intent with Lilium to form an exclusive fleet of eVTOLs. The agreement between the companies may reach a value of up to US$ 1 billion and includes a fleet of 220 flying cars, which will begin operations in 2025. The order for the electric flying cars will still have its commercial terms finalized between the two parties.
