Production of New Models by the German Multinational Is in the Implementation Phase
According to the Metalworkers’ Union, the MQB platform, which enables the production of new models, is in the implementation phase at the Taubaté factory.

After Automakers Halted Vehicle Production in 29 Factories in Brazil, Volkswagen and Toyota Resume Production in the Country
Volkswagen has made production halts since the beginning of the pandemic. This week, the company resumed operations, but with part of the production, after two weeks paused across the country due to the worsening pandemic of coronavirus.

Taubaté – SP Suffers From the Crisis in the Industry
Taubaté has been strongly impacted by the industrial crisis in 2021. The multinationals Ford and LG, which had been operating in the city for years, are set to end their local production.
The first announcement was from Ford in January, and about 830 metalworkers are expected to lose their jobs at the automaker’s engine factory. Ford announced that it would halt vehicle production at its factories in Brazil in 2021 (see video above). In total, 5,000 jobs are expected to be affected in Taubaté, Camaçari (BA), and Horizonte (CE).
Last week, LG also announced the end of production at its Taubaté (SP) factory. The South Korean company decided to cease global operations in mobile phones, produced exclusively at the unit in Brazil, and transfer the monitor and notebook sector to the Manaus (AM) factory.
The exit of the Korean company is expected to result in the closure of 700 direct jobs, in addition to affecting the production chain in the region. According to the Metalworkers’ Union, three exclusive suppliers of LG are also expected to cease activities due to the loss of demand from the South Korean company, leading to the layoffs of another 430 people.
