Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Has Been the Best Option for Consumers Looking to Save Amid Rising Gasoline, Ethanol, and Diesel Prices. Drivers Report Savings of Up to 50%

With the significant increase in gasoline, ethanol, and diesel prices in recent months, consumers in Ribeirão Preto (SP) are turning to compressed natural gas (CNG) to save money. According to experts, the new fuel can reduce expenses on gasoline by up to 50%, for example. Given that the price of gasoline is currently R$ 5.89, some mechanical workshops that perform CNG conversions report that consumer demand has been so high that they no longer have availability for this month.

CNG Remains Advantageous

According to Elise Magazoni Moraes, the owner of a workshop, moving away from gasoline, ethanol, and diesel is a switch that brings various advantages for consumers.

The owner claims that with the use of compressed natural gas (CNG), the cost of fuel drops by half. Jorge Batista, a rideshare driver, was one of the consumers who stopped using gasoline, ethanol, and diesel to refuel with compressed natural gas (CNG). The driver states that like him, other consumers working in passenger transport have started using the product and are achieving greater profits.

The greater benefits, when compared to gasoline, ethanol, and diesel, are also confirmed by Alex Constâncio, an employee at a gas station. The employee claims that with compressed natural gas, the vehicle ends up covering a longer distance, offsetting the investment cost.

Increase in CNG

As not everything is perfect, in April, Petrobras announced a 39% increase in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for distributors. According to the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas, and Biofuels (ANP), in May, the fuel reached a price of R$ 4.199 at some gas stations in the city of Rio de Janeiro. As such, CNG is gaining space in consumers’ tanks for being cheaper.

Biogas (CNG) Awakens Interest and Curiosity Among Consumers

For those who have set aside gasoline, ethanol, and diesel and have suffered from the increase in CNG prices, CNG also brings great advantages for vehicles. Wallace Reis, owner of six gas stations in Rio de Janeiro, states that he started offering CNG at least a year ago due to its high efficiency.

According to the owner, many customers don’t even realize they are fueling with biogas, as it is a process similar to that of CNG. Reis states that customers always return after noticing the results in their vehicles, such as a 30 km increase in range compared to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
