Petrobras informs that its logistical support is part of efforts to increase the supply of oxygen to Amazonas. The vessel, weighing 500 tons, is used by Petrobras for the transportation of large equipment to its oil and gas production unit in Urucu, Amazonas. River transport allows for the movement of larger volumes of oxygen compared to air transport.

“The barge came from Belém (PA) and arrived at the Encontro das Águas Port, a Petrobras unit this Saturday. The oxygen will be transferred in the coming days to White Martins trucks, following operational and safety procedures” says the state-owned company in the statement.

Petrobras Project Together for Amazonas

Petrobras expresses its solidarity with the situation in Amazonas and has been monitoring the worsening and increase of Covid-19 cases in Brazil. The company is part of the group Together for Amazonas, formed by 15 companies and entities that came together to carry out a solidarity action aimed at supporting the region. The group will make a donation to the United Against Covid-19 program of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) in the amount of R$ 1.6 million, referring to an oxygen production plant, which is expected to support public hospitals in the region.

In addition, a total of 42 lung ventilators developed by the University of São Paulo (USP) in partnership with Petrobras and the Brazilian Institute of Petroleum and Gas (IBP) were donated to public hospitals in Manaus, Amazonas. “The new model is low cost, with 100% Brazilian technology, created by a team of engineers at the university to meet the emergency need for ventilators during the pandemic”, informed the state-owned company.

In line with the requirements of the Brazilian Association of Intensive Medicine and the specifications for Covid-19 treatment, the model received authorization from Anvisa last August. The project aims to produce a total of 135 devices and distribute them free of charge to public hospitals across the country.
