Brazil’s oil and gas production reached 5.851 million barrels of oil equivalent per day in July 2026, marking a 13.6% annual increase in oil and accounting for 82.4% of the total from the pre-salt.
The consolidated data was released by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) on September 1st. The report compiles volumes of oil and gas extracted in the previous month.
The measure in barrels of oil equivalent allows for summation of the two productions in a common unit. The total of 5.851 million BOE/D represents the daily average for July.
Oil alone accounted for 4.498 million barrels per day. This volume grew by 0.5% compared to the previous month and 13.6% compared to July 2025.

Oil and Gas Production Concentrated in Pre-salt
The pre-salt produced 4.821 million BOE/D in July. This volume accounted for 82.4% of all oil and natural gas extracted in Brazil.
According to the ANP, pre-salt production increased by 0.3% in the month and 18.2% compared to July of the previous year.
This area extracted 3.728 million barrels of oil per day and 173.72 million m³ of natural gas daily through 203 wells.
The 82.4% share indicates that any fluctuations in large offshore fields quickly affect the national indicator. The remainder of production is divided among other offshore areas and onshore fields.
Nationwide, offshore fields accounted for 98.1% of the oil and 88.7% of the gas. Onshore extraction remains regionally significant but has a lesser weight in total production.
Fields operated by Petrobras, either alone or in consortia, concentrated 87.27% of production. The report identified sources from 6,724 wells, including 613 offshore and 6,111 onshore.
While the number of onshore wells is significantly higher, the productivity of deepwater and ultra-deepwater facilities drastically changes the volume comparison.
Búzios, in the pre-salt Santos Basin, was the largest oil producer, reaching 1.113 million barrels per day for the month.
Mero led in natural gas production, with 49.14 million m³ per day. Both fields are located in the Santos Basin and operate large floating units.
Thus, the national record does not come from the uniform sum of thousands of wells. A decisive portion arises from a few fields and platforms with high productivity.

FPSO Almirante Tamandaré Leads Oil Extraction
Among the facilities, the FPSO Almirante Tamandaré, in Búzios, recorded the highest oil production at 263,178 barrels per day.
For gas, the leadership belonged to the FPSO Marechal Duque de Caxias, in the Mero field, with 13.60 million m³ daily.
An FPSO receives fluids from subsea wells, separates oil, water, and gas, stores the oil, and transfers the load to ships. Therefore, its performance is directly reflected in the field’s numbers.
Natural gas utilization reached 97.8%. A total of 66.12 million m³ per day was made available to the market, while flaring accounted for 4.67 million m³ daily.
Flaring dropped 29.5% compared to the previous month and 14.8% compared to July 2025. This indicator helps to show how much of the produced gas was used or reinjected.
Production can vary due to maintenance, the entry of new wells, cleaning, scheduled shutdowns, or commissioning of units. The ANP itself considers these changes a normal part of operations.
Therefore, an isolated month does not explain the entire trend. Monthly comparisons show short-term movements, while 12-month differences help to identify structural advancements.
In oil, the monthly increase of 0.5% was minimal compared to the 13.6% accumulated over twelve months. In gas, the month saw a decline, but the annual result still grew by 12.6%.
We can see two speeds here. Equipment goes in and out for maintenance in the short term, while new platforms and wells change the baseline over time.
The advancement of the pre-salt also increases logistical dependence on ships, subsea systems, and floating units. A significant failure in these assets can remove a large volume at once.
At the same time, concentration allows for economies of scale. Large platforms process volumes that would require many smaller fields in other regions.
July ended with high production, increased gas utilization, and a clear leadership from Búzios and Mero. Future reports will show whether this level is sustained after operational variations.
The total in BOE should not be confused with physical barrels of oil. This unit converts the energy content of gas to allow for a comparable sum across products measured in different ways.
Of the 214.97 million m³ per day of gas produced, only a part was made available to the market. Another portion may be reinjected into reservoirs, consumed at facilities, or used in operations.
The reduction in flaring is a relevant operational indicator because it shows less visible product loss. Nevertheless, it must be accompanied by the capacity to transport, process, and sell the gas.
Búzios alone accounted for about a quarter of the Brazilian oil reported in the month. This scale helps to explain why the FPSO Almirante Tamandaré is at the forefront of the installations.
Mero plays a similar role in gas. The Marechal Duque de Caxias platform led among units, while the field gathered the largest daily volume of this product.
