Electric cars are no longer just a promise for the future: they are showing concrete results in the present. The most evident example comes from the BYD Dolphin Mini, which recorded only 7.8% depreciation between 2024 and 2025,

This rate represents less than half of the value loss of the Volkswagen Polo, the best-selling passenger car in the country last year, which accumulated a drop of 17% in the same period, according to data from the automotive platform Mobiauto.

In practice, anyone who bought the Dolphin Mini new in August 2024 for R$ 115,800 now has a car valued at around R$ 106,715 in their garage.

On the other hand, the Polo Track, the entry-level version of the German hatchback, sold in the same period for R$ 89,990, is currently found in the market for approximately R$ 74,301.

Sales: Polo Leadership and Advancement of Electrics

Despite the higher depreciation, the Polo continues to dominate in volume. According to Fenabrave, there were 140,177 units licensed in 2024, coming in only behind the Fiat Strada pickup, which exceeded 144.6 thousand registrations in the same timeframe.

The Dolphin Mini, in turn, gained significant ground by registering 21,968 units, securing the 35th position among the 50 best-selling vehicles, considering both passenger and light commercial cars. The model was launched in February 2024 and quickly became the best-selling electric car in the country.

It is followed by its larger sibling, the BYD Dolphin, which totaled just over 15 thousand registrations in the year. The GWM Ora 03 closed 2024 with 6,326 units sold, less than half of the second place, finishing only in the 46th position among the best-selling passenger cars.

Line 2026: Changes and Price Adjustments

In the 2026 line, the Dolphin Mini will be sold in a single version for five passengers, with a price of R$ 119,990, which is R$ 3 thousand less than the previous list. The aesthetic novelty is the color Glacial Blue, which joins the other three options already offered.

The mechanical set remains the same: front electric motor of 75 hp and 13.8 kgfm of torque, powered by 38 kWh batteries, ensuring a range of 280 km according to Inmetro.

With a length of 3.80 meters, height of 1.58 m, width of 1.70 m, and wheelbase of 2.50 m, the model offers a trunk of 230 liters and stands out for being the first mass-produced electric car in Brazil, at the BYD factory in Camaçari (BA), in the process of full nationalization.

Polo 2026: Fewer Versions and Focus on SUV Tera

Volkswagen also made adjustments to the 2026 line of the Polo. From seven versions, the hatch will now be offered in only three: Track, Sense, and Highline. This reduction is due to the arrival of the Tera, the brand’s new entry-level SUV.

The mechanical options remain the same: the Polo Track retains the 1.0 aspirated engine with 84 hp and 10.3 kgfm, with a five-speed manual transmission. The higher versions use the 1.0 turbo engine with 116 hp and 16.8 kgfm, always associated with a six-speed automatic transmission.
