BYD Opens Factory in Camaçari (BA) and Accelerates the Brazilian Economy with Local Production of Electric and Hybrid Cars.

BYD Opens Factory in Brazil and Promises to Drive a New Era of Electric Cars

The Brazilian automotive industry is going through a historic moment. BYD, the Chinese giant in electric cars, has inaugurated its first factory in Brazil, in Camaçari (BA).

After months of construction, adjustments, and some controversies, the first national models — the electric Dolphin Mini and the hybrid King and Song Pro — will start arriving at dealerships in the coming days.

With an investment of R$ 5.5 billion, BYD takes a decisive step in its global expansion and bets on the green economy as a growth driver for the country.

Therefore, the inauguration consolidates the company’s confidence in Brazil and marks the beginning of a new phase for the national automotive industry.

Former Ford Plant Gains New Momentum with BYD’s Arrival

In an area of 4.6 million square meters in Camaçari, previously occupied by Ford, BYD initiates a new cycle for the automotive industry in Bahia.

Although it inherited the land, the Chinese automaker built entirely new facilities, with an initial structure of 156,000 square meters already operational since July.

According to the company, this is just the first of 26 planned units for the industrial complex. “The plant is a symbol of BYD’s confidence in Brazil,” the automaker emphasized in an official statement.

For now, BYD receives partially assembled vehicles from China and completes production in the country, preparing for future full nationalization.

Focus on Nationalization and Job Creation

BYD has set ambitious goals for the coming years. By 2026, the company aims to nationalize most of the components, including batteries, electric motors, and welding and painting systems.

Currently, few items are produced in Brazil — such as tires — but the expectation is that the nationalization rate will advance rapidly with the strengthening of the local production chain.

BYD bets on job creation and professional training. In October, it hired 350 people, totaling 1,800 employees, with plans to exceed 2,000 by the end of this year.

BYD sent five groups of Brazilian technicians to China for training, bringing back the necessary knowledge to enhance the quality of national production.

First Flex Plug-in Hybrid Developed in the Country

BYD also revealed a historic innovation: the first flex plug-in hybrid car developed in partnership between engineers from Brazil and China.

The model combines electric technology and the use of ethanol or gasoline in any proportion, creating a tailored solution for the Brazilian market.

The new technology debuts in the SUV Song Pro, with 30 units already produced for use during COP30, the global climate event to be held in Brazil.

BYD adapts the 1.5 naturally aspirated engine from the DM-i platform, used in the BYD King, for biofuels, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable mobility.

Production Capacity and Ambitious Goals

BYD’s factory will start production with 150,000 vehicles per year and plans to double to 300,000, making Camaçari one of the largest hubs for electric and hybrid cars in Latin America.

The assembly lines are designed for maximum flexibility, allowing for the simultaneous manufacturing of electric and hybrid models.

Thus, this strategy reinforces BYD’s commitment to innovation and technological diversification in Brazil.

Expansion and Leadership in Brazil’s Electric Car Economy

With this, BYD strengthens its expansion, broadens its presence across the national territory, and reinforces its position as one of the leading forces in electric mobility in Brazil.

Therefore, the company accelerates growth, innovates technologically, and expands its sales network, consolidating the brand as a reference and driving the electric car industry towards sustainability.

With this, BYD expands its national presence and consolidates its leadership in the new era of electric mobility in Brazil.

A Milestone for the Industry and the Brazilian Economy

The arrival of BYD in Camaçari marks a new chapter in the energy transition and in the industrial resurgence of Brazil.

The automaker bets on clean technology, job creation, and billion-dollar investment to drive a more sustainable and competitive economy.

With this initiative, Brazil stands out in the electric car revolution, attracts new international investments, and strengthens its automotive industry on the global stage.
