Inmetro reveals plug-in hybrid consumption data, highlighting the superiority of the Chinese BYD King sedan
The BYD King, a Chinese sedan officially launched in Brazil in June this year, is now available in two versions. With prices starting at R$ 175.800 in the GL configuration and R$187.800 in the top-of-the-line GS, the model has aroused the market’s curiosity. The most recent news is the publication of the consumption of the plug-in hybrid by the National Institute of Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality (Inmetro), which confirms the vehicle's energy efficiency, according to the Auto Esporte website.
Unbeatable consumption
The Brazilian Vehicle Labeling Program (PBEV) presented two consumption measurement scenarios for the BYD King. When operating with combustion and electric engines simultaneously, the King records an impressive 44,2 km/l in the city and 36,7 km/l on the highway. The top-of-the-line version achieves 43,3 km/l and 32,7 km/l, respectively. In comparison, the Toyota Corolla, its main competitor, achieves 12,8 km/l in the urban cycle and 11,1 km/l on the highway with ethanol, and 18,5 km/l in the city and 15,7 km/l on the highway with gasoline. These numbers highlight the superiority of the Chinese sedan in terms of fuel economy.
BYD King efficiency in different modes
Considering just the gasoline engine, the BYD King maintains good performance. The entry-level version achieves 16,3 km/l in the city and 14,3 km/l on the highway, while the most expensive configuration achieves 16,8 km/l and 14,7 km/l, respectively. In electric mode, autonomy also varies: 32 km in the GL version and 80 km in the GS. These numbers are slightly lower than those declared in China, 55 km and 105 km, respectively, due to variations in batteries and powers between available versions.
