After anticipating the arrival of thousands of vehicles to dodge the increase in import rates, the Chinese automaker BYD launched a promotional offensive across almost its entire lineup in Brazil. The discounts, valid until the end of May, reach R$ 50 thousand and aim to refresh stock for the next wave of imports.
Aggressive Strategy to Clear Showrooms and Maintain Leadership
With the goal of maintaining the fast sales pace and making room for new batches expected in the coming months, BYD is offering aggressive discounts on various models. This move follows the arrival of thousands of units brought in by the ship Explorer No. 1, in a maneuver to escape the new federal tax on electrified cars, which has been in effect since April.
According to automotive sector analysts, the automaker’s strategy is aimed at consolidating its presence in the Brazilian market before the new rules permanently raise the prices of imported models. “It’s a master move. Instead of passing the costs onto the consumer, BYD is pressuring the competition with volume and price,” said an industry expert in an interview with AutoEsporte.

Seal, Yuan, Dolphin and King Have Reduced Prices
One of the standout offers in the promotion is the BYD Seal, a sports sedan with over 500 hp, which has been reduced from R$ 299.8 thousand to R$ 249.8 thousand. The model, which competes with premium electric cars, has already ranked among the best-selling sedans in the country in 2024.
The Yuan Plus SUV, positively reviewed in several tests in Brazil, has had its price cut by R$ 36 thousand, now priced at R$ 199.8 thousand. The compact Dolphin Mini, a leader in electric car sales this year, now costs R$ 117.8 thousand, with a discount of R$ 5 thousand. The Dolphin GS is also included in the campaign, with a R$ 20 thousand cut (from R$ 159.8 thousand to R$ 139.8 thousand).
Among the hybrids, the highlight is the BYD King, a direct competitor to the Toyota Corolla, whose top version has seen its price reduced from R$ 191.9 thousand to R$ 160.9 thousand — saving R$ 31 thousand. The SUVs Song Pro and Song Plus have also become more affordable, each with R$ 25 thousand off.

On social media and automotive forums like the Electric Car Club, many consumers celebrated the brand’s initiative. “Now it is possible to buy an electric car without selling a kidney!,” commented a user on Instagram. Others questioned the durability of the batteries and the depreciation of models with such aggressive discounts.
Experts warn that while the prices are attractive, it’s important to evaluate the charging infrastructure available in your city and the maintenance costs. Still, for those seeking an electrified car with good cost-effectiveness, this might be the ideal time to make the switch.
