The Strategy of Large Stocks and Promotional Campaigns Guaranteed the Chinese Brand an Advantage Over the Japanese Rival in 2025 Sales.
BYD took the seventh position in the ranking of best-selling brands in Brazil in 2025, surpassing Honda from January to August. According to data from Fenabrave, the Chinese automaker sold 66,419 vehicles, compared to 65,589 from the Japanese.
At the top of the list are Volkswagen, Fiat, and Chevrolet. Hyundai occupies the fourth position, followed by Toyota and Jeep. After BYD and Honda, the group is completed by Renault and Nissan.
BYD’s growth was consistent throughout the months. The company surpassed Honda in April, May, July, and August, with the largest difference recorded in the last two months. In 2024, the brand ended the year in tenth place, with 76,402 units, compared to 91,450 of its rival.

Less than a Tera TSI, up to 710 km of range and charging in 9 minutes: the new BYD Song Ultra expands the Chinese brand’s bet on increasingly faster, more technological, and competitively priced electric SUVs.

With a 1.0 engine producing 75 hp and costing less than R$ 70,000, Fiat’s car returns to the podium as the cheapest in the country; a temporary promotion for the 2026 Like version reduces the price of the Fiat Mobi.

With a mild hybrid system of 48 V, 176 hp and a price of R$ 175,990 in the Sahara version, the new Jeep Renegade changes mostly on the inside, improves slightly in fuel consumption, and remains almost the same car.

With a 293.5 cm³ engine and a range of up to 400 km with a 14.1-liter tank, the Honda CB 300F Twister 2026 has up to 24.7 hp, an initial price of R$ 25,150, and already exceeds R$ 29,000 in the Fipe Table.
High Stock and Aggressive Prices
The advancement of the Chinese automaker is linked to the volume of imported vehicles and high stock levels. Experts point out that the strategy of maintaining large shipments helped to control prices and ensure market presence.
Paulo Garbossa, director of ADK Automotive, states that the firepower of the Chinese extends throughout Latin America. For him, the stock allows for planning promotions and could lead BYD to surpass Jeep soon.
Consultant Milad Kalume Neto highlights that BYD’s ships brought many vehicles. To reduce this volume, the company launched aggressive campaigns and lowered prices. He assesses that the brand can remain among the top ten and even reach the top five in the long term.
Anfavea is also monitoring the movement. In July, the president of the association, Igor Calvet, revealed that the stocks of Chinese automakers reached 111,000 vehicles. According to him, this number affects the market and needs to be considered in local industry defense strategies.
Performance in Hybrids
In the hybrid segment, the difference between the two brands is even greater. Between January and August 2025, Honda sold 1,774 vehicles, while BYD recorded 31,953 units, a volume 18 times larger.
The Song Pro, BYD’s SUV, is the cheapest electrified model from the brand, costing from R$ 189,990. The Civic Advanced Hybrid, Honda’s most affordable option, costs R$ 265,900, nearly 40% more.
Moreover, the Song Pro can run up to 39 km in electric mode, a feature absent in the Civic. Despite this, experts remind that the models are aimed at different audiences: traditional sedans in the case of Honda and urban SUVs in the case of BYD.
Presence in Brazil
Honda has been present in the country since 1971. The Sumaré (SP) factory currently produces only engines and components. National vehicles from the brand are assembled in Itirapina (SP), where HR-V and City are made. Other models, such as Civic, Accord, and CR-V, arrive imported.
The company announced it will invest R$ 4.2 billion to develop the first national flex hybrid engine, which is set to equip future models.
BYD, on the other hand, maintains a factory in Camaçari (BA). There, Dolphin Mini, Song Pro, and King are produced. The automaker is also preparing to introduce a flex hybrid engine in the Song Pro, reinforcing its local strategy.
With competitive prices, ample stock, and strong presence in the hybrid segment, BYD has established itself among the top ten in Brazil. The performance in 2025 shows that the competition with Honda is just beginning.
