Built in 2011 in Sherwood Forest Estates, in the Orillia and Lake Country area of Ontario, the cabin made with 150 hand-peeled red cedar logs features 6,000 square feet, six bedrooms, wood bear sculptures, and structure transported in three trucks

A cabin built with 150 hand-peeled red cedar logs is located in Sherwood Forest Estates, in the Orillia and Lake Country area of Ontario. The 6,000 square foot residence incorporates sculpted handcrafted elements and occupies a 2.1-acre lot.

Log Cabin Built With Hand-Peeled Red Cedar

The log cabin is situated in an area surrounded by tall pine trees in the central part of the Canadian province of Ontario. The property is close to ski resorts used in the winter and also near beaches frequented during the summer.

Although wooden cabins are part of the local landscape, broker Michael Kalistchuk stated that this is the only one he knows of built with hand-peeled western red cedar. He mentioned that the residence is also among the few produced by Log Homes Canada.

The construction was completed in 2011 and occupies the highest point of a hill located at the end of a cul-de-sac. According to the broker responsible for the listing, the current seller is the third owner of the property.

The Cabin Structure Contains 150 Logs Transported in Three Trucks

One of the most notable elements of the cabin is the volume of wood used in its construction. In total, 150 logs were employed, each measuring 15.8 meters in length, transported to the site in three trucks.

Some of these logs weigh up to 1,360 kilograms each. The broker stated that the amount of wood used is one of the most impressive elements of the architectural design of the residence.

The logs form the main structure of the house and also appear as sculpted columns that support interior areas. These columns feature motifs inspired by bears, a recurring theme in the property’s decor.

The Cabin Interior Features 6.55-Meter Cathedral Ceiling and Bear Sculptures

The main entrance of the cabin features a custom door carved with a bear motif. The door leads to a spacious room with slate flooring and an interior structure marked by exposed wood.

According to the broker, the main room has laser-leveled pine extending up to the peak of a cathedral ceiling with a height of 6.55 meters. The space is also heated by a stone fireplace that distributes warmth throughout the two stories of the residence.

Sculpted wooden columns with bear images are distributed throughout the main area of the house. One decorative element features a bear appearing to emerge directly from one of the wooden columns.

The kitchen includes stainless steel appliances, solid wood cabinets, and granite countertops. Also on the same floor, the master bedroom has a private bathroom with a standalone bathtub and a shower covered with mosaic tiles.

Bedroom Layout, Handcrafted Library, and Leisure Area

On the second floor of the cabin, there is a library located at the landing of the stairs. The shelves in this space were carved by local Mennonite carpenters, known for their handcrafted woodwork.

Two bedrooms on this level have private bathrooms. The lower level of the residence adds three more bedrooms and an additional bathroom to the property layout.

The basement of the house has been converted into a game room equipped with pool tables and air hockey. In this space, an antique bar adorned with polished wood, marble, and glass occupies a central position.

The bar also has mirrored shelves for storing bottles and glasses. The space was designed as an area for socializing and leisure within the residence.

Lot, Garages, and Location of the Cabin in Oro-Medonte

The log cabin is built on a 2.1-acre lot within the Sherwood Forest Estates community. The residence has six bedrooms, four full bathrooms, and a half bath.

An attached heated garage integrates with the main structure of the house. Above it, there is an attic with 650 square feet, equivalent to approximately 60 square meters.

The sellers also added a second separate garage with space for one car. The property is located in the municipality of Oro-Medonte, in Simcoe County, near the northwest shore of Lake Simcoe.

The region is situated about 130 kilometers north of downtown Toronto. The broker stated that the location is between Toronto and Muskoka and allows for quick access to tourist attractions.

Nearby destinations include the ski resorts Horseshoe Valley and Mount St. Louis Moonstone. Vettä Nordic Spa is also just minutes away from the property.

During the summer, proximity to the beaches of Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching attracts visitors for recreational activities. The area is known as Orillia and the Lakes Region and welcomes tourists year-round.

Nearby Airports and Purchase Rules for Foreigners

Lake Simcoe Regional Airport, which serves private and charter flights, is located about 4.8 kilometers east of the property. Toronto Pearson International Airport is approximately 105 kilometers to the west.

Since it is not situated in an area officially classified as CMA, the cabin is not subject to the Canadian prohibition on property purchases by foreigners. However, foreign buyers in Ontario are subject to a 25% tax.

The property listing is managed by agents Michael Kalistchuk, Liam Hope, and Leor Godfrey, affiliated with The Agency. According to the broker in charge, the log cabin combines handcrafted structure, large volumes of wood, and a location close to regional tourist destinations.
