Jim Farley Recognizes Chinese Advances and Admits That BYD, Xiaomi and Huawei Have Already Overtaken Ford, GM and Even Tesla in the Electric Sector.
The CEO of Ford, Jim Farley, has made direct statements about the current landscape of the automotive industry. For him, China is “completely dominating” the electric vehicle sector and even Tesla cannot compete with the strength of the Chinese brands.
The executive does not hide his concerns and has already stated that the situation represents an unprecedented challenge for traditional manufacturers in the United States and Europe.
Ford Accumulates Losses, While China Increases Advantage
Despite the growth in electric vehicle sales at Ford, the Ford E division, responsible for this line, continues to report billion-dollar losses.

While much of the industry rushes to automate production, Rolls-Royce takes over 600 hours to hand-build each car in Goodwood and still accepts orders so complex that they can take up to four years to be completed.

Smaller than the Model Y, lighter, with a single motor and designed to cost less than the current Model 3, Tesla’s new compact electric SUV is born in China and could seal the automaker’s return to the race for mass-market electric vehicles.

Kawasaki took the technology from its most brutal racing bikes, squeezed it into a 400cc 4-cylinder engine that revs to 15,000 RPM, and created the ZX-4R, a machine that shouldn’t exist in this displacement but is making experienced riders rethink everything they thought they knew about mid-range motorcycles.

The culture of cars that jump on the asphalt was born in the garages of Mexicans in the 1940s, was treated as a crime in the United States for decades, and has now become an official postage stamp of the American Postal Service in a twist that no one expected.
In the first quarter of this year, losses reached US$ 840 million, a number lower than the US$ 1.3 billion in the same period of 2024, but still far from a healthy operation.
For Farley, this scenario reinforces the imbalance regarding the performance of Chinese companies.
According to him, companies in the Asian country have not only gained ground in the domestic market but are also rapidly advancing in external markets. The CEO stated that neither Tesla, nor GM, nor Ford can realistically compete with what China has already achieved globally.
Recognition of Chinese Technological Superiority
Farley has already classified the Chinese evolution as “the most humiliating thing I’ve ever seen.” He highlighted the technological capability of brands like Xiaomi and Huawei, emphasizing that they offer superior digital experiences within vehicles. “You get in and don’t need to pair your phone.
All your digital life is automatically mirrored in the car,” he stated in one of his remarks.
In addition to the embedded technology, the executive highlighted the business model that supports this advancement.
According to him, Chinese automakers have hundreds of companies, many of them financially backed by local governments, which ensures high subsidies and the ability to innovate at reduced costs.
Direct Experience with Chinese Cars
To closely understand this revolution, Farley started driving a Xiaomi SU7. He acknowledged that the experience clearly demonstrates the progress of the Chinese industry in terms of electrification, usability, and technological integration.
While praising the competitors, the CEO warns that the Chinese model creates a competitive advantage that is practically unattainable for Western companies.
For him, the sector faces a new reality: a global Chinese dominance that expands every year and redefines the course of the automotive industry.
