CHOCOLATE CONTAMINATION
Anvisa Suspends Sale of Two Batches of Chocolates from Garoto
How The Contamination Happened
According to a statement from Anvisa, Garoto identified a malfunction in one of its production equipment and, because of that, there is a risk of containing small glass fragments in chocolates from two specific batches of Garoto.
“The procedure for recalling the contaminated chocolates was initiated by the company, due to the detection of damage in one of its production equipment with the risk of containing small glass fragments in products from the mentioned batches, which could cause injuries to the mouth or mucous membranes,” Anvisa said in a statement.
Which Batches Are Contaminated?
According to Garoto and Anvisa, one of the batches is the 80g bar of milk chocolate with cashew nuts: batch 225212941G, valid until 09/09/2023. And the other batch is the milk chocolate with Cashew Nuts and Raisins, also 80 grams: 225312941G, valid until 09/09/2023.
Garoto also informs that, according to the documentation the company presented to Anvisa, the vast majority of the products in the contaminated batches were not sold.
Still based on the documentation, there is a possibility that some Garoto chocolates that were at risk of contamination were distributed in Vila Velha (ES) and in the state of Santa Catarina.
