Have You Ever Imagined Driving an Electric Mini Cooper? These and Other Classics Are Being Converted to Electric Cars by a Company in the United Kingdom.
The Mini Cooper is transformed into an electric car with the help of the Nissan Leaf system, featuring a 20 kWh battery. The original Mini Cooper is one of those classics that never go out of style, but since gasoline-powered classic cars will no longer be allowed on the streets of Europe, there is a way to keep driving the Mini Cooper.

The battery capacity is approximately 20 kWh (for a standard model), giving the Mini Cooper a range of about 110 km on a single charge. 20 kWh may not seem like much, but the company had to place the batteries under the hood and also in the trunk.
London Electric Cars does not specify the electric car’s motor, but if it is from a Nissan Leaf, it could produce about 110 horsepower and 28.5 kgfm, though there is a possibility it has been adjusted to deliver lower power due to the size of the Mini Cooper.
Mini Cooper Becomes an Accessible and Useful Option for Everyone
According to the founder of London Electric Cars, Matthew Quitter, as a classic car enthusiast and advocate for electric conversion, it made sense for the company to focus on the original Mini.
With this electric version using the Nissan system, the company aimed for the electric car to be a useful and affordable option not just for London residents but for people all over the world, aiming to reduce pollution and promote sustainability.
Conversion for Everyone
The company claims that any vehicle can become an electric car; however, some conversions are more difficult than the one done with the Mini Cooper using the Nissan system, as they are harder to integrate or require larger motors and batteries, resulting in higher costs and discouraging customers interested in financial considerations.
Considering these factors, the company’s focus is on classic cars whose conversion can be done more simply. Currently, the company specializes in classic Minis, Land Rover Series Defenders, Travellers, Morris Minors, and vans.
The cost of the electric car conversion depends on various factors, but on average, the company performs conversions for £ 22,000 for 20 kWh, £ 26,000 for 25 kWh, and £ 33,000 for 33 kWh. Conversions take approximately 3 months, but custom and more complex projects may take around 6 months or more to complete.
