Young Person from the Interior Builds a Career Path in the Military with Family Support, Academic Persistence, and Strategic Use of Free Educational Content Until Achieving Formation as an Officer
The son of a lunch lady and a farmer, the resident of Piauí Simião Júnior, now 25 years old, has achieved one of the most sought-after positions in the military career by graduating as an officer after completing the Army Cadet Preparatory School. His journey stands out not only for its humble beginnings but mainly for the way he prepared: using exclusively free materials available online, without paid preparatory courses.
From an early age, the military environment was part of Simião’s daily life. After all, he is the youngest of eight siblings, six of whom served in the 3rd Construction Engineering Battalion (BEC). Nevertheless, despite the strong family influence, the young man took time to decide to follow the same path. Initially, he sought something more connected to the academic world, which ultimately was decisive for his choice to pursue an officer career.
The information was disclosed by the Portal ClubeNews, which detailed the story of the military and highlighted the role of public education and individual effort throughout the training process.

Influence of Siblings and the Discovery of the Officer Career Through the Exam
As the years went by, conversations at home began to change the course of the decision. According to Simião, his siblings always asked if he also intended to serve. At first, the idea didn’t seem appealing. However, as he learned more about the structure of the officer exam and the possibilities for professional growth, interest arose naturally.
From that point on, he began an intense study routine. Unlike most candidates, who invest in traditional preparatory courses, Simião chose another path. With discipline and planning, he began to study only through free classes, found on open platforms and materials shared by educators.
In addition, he relied on the direct support of a high school friend, who studied with him and was also approved. This partnership was crucial for maintaining consistency and motivation throughout the process.
Schooling, Successive Attempts, and Approval on the Third Try
Simião’s educational journey began in São João da Canabrava, where he completed basic education. Later, he was approved at the Piauí Federal Institute (IFPI), Picos campus, where he attended high school. This solid educational foundation played a decisive role in the academic performance required for the exam.
The admission exam, however, did not come immediately. The young man took the exam three times, being approved only on the third attempt, in 2020. According to him, persistence was a key factor. Each failure served as a learning experience to adjust methods, identify shortcomings, and reinforce content.
After his approval, Simião spent one year in Campinas (SP), where the preparatory school is located. He then was promoted to Cadet and proceeded to the Military Academy of Agulhas Negras (AMAN), located in Resende (RJ), where he officially completed his training as an officer.
Individual Effort, Daily Discipline, and the Importance of Free Access to Knowledge
Despite constant family support, Simião emphasizes that the decisive factor was personal effort. For him, approval in exams requires routine, discipline, and daily commitment. Getting up, sitting down to study, and maintaining consistency, according to the officer, are actions that make a difference in the long run.
Moreover, his story reinforces an increasingly relevant point: democratic access to knowledge. By using quality free content, he demonstrated that it is possible to compete at a high level even without financial resources for expensive courses.
Today, the feeling is one of fulfillment. More than attaining a position, Simião sees his education as a way to give back all the support received from family, public schools, and the people who believed in his journey from the beginning.
In light of this journey marked by persistence, family support, and the use of free content, to what extent can access to open education and individual effort level the playing field in highly competitive exams like the military ones?
