The Interstellar Visitor Approaching Our Solar System Has An Estimated Size That Surprises The Scientific Community And Its Recent Color Change From Red To Green Raises New Questions About Its Composition.

October is proving to be a crucial month for the observation of 3l/Atlas, the third interstellar object ever detected in our Solar System. Its passing has generated great anticipation and, at the same time, mystery among scientists. According to “Fatos Desconhecidos”, the scientific community is counting down to understand the secrets that this “traveler” may reveal.

Recently, supposed images of 3l/Atlas captured by the Navcam camera aboard the Perseverance rover on Mars have sparked a major debate. Although NASA has not confirmed the authenticity of the images due to a government “shutdown”, astrophysicist Avi Loeb from Harvard University performed calculations indicating a trail of approximately 50 thousand kilometers. However, as “Fatos Desconhecidos” explains, this number does not represent the actual size of the object, but rather a motion effect, similar to the light trail of an airplane in a long-exposure photograph. The latest estimates, based on observations from the Hubble Space Telescope, suggest a nucleus with a diameter between 400 meters and 5.6 kilometers.

The Mysterious Color Change

One of the most intriguing aspects of 3l/Atlas is its color change. Initially, the comet exhibited a reddish hue, typical of D-type asteroids, indicating a composition rich in organic materials and an origin from an extremely cold region of the universe.

However, more recent observations made during a total lunar eclipse in September revealed that 3l/Atlas is becoming increasingly green as it approaches the Sun. According to “Fatos Desconhecidos”, this color change is not unprecedented, but what intrigues scientists is the absence of carbon detected so far, an element generally associated with this coloration in other comets. Professor Avi Loeb suggests that the high presence of cyanide, already detected in the comet’s “coma”, may be the cause of the green coloration.

Uncertainties And Expectations

The lack of an official statement from NASA, due to the “shutdown”, leaves many questions unanswered. Scientists around the world are eagerly awaiting the release of high-resolution images from the HiRISE camera, also from NASA, which could provide more accurate data on the size and composition of 3l/Atlas.

In the meantime, the scientific community and astronomy enthusiasts continue to follow the trajectory of 3l/Atlas, which on October 21 will begin to hide behind the Sun, making its observation impossible for a few weeks. The comet’s return to visibility, expected in early November, is anticipated with great expectation, as it may bring new answers about this mysterious interstellar visitor.

What is your opinion about the mysteries surrounding 3l/Atlas? Do you believe we are facing a natural phenomenon or something more? Share your theories in the comments.
