Get To Know Incra
The National Institute for Colonization and Agrarian Reform (Incra) was established on July 9, 1970, during the military dictatorship. At that time, land conflicts were intensifying, and the government saw this project as an opportunity to neutralize them, while also promoting the occupation of the Amazon region.
Thus, the development of the entity, which is a federal autarchy, that is, it has administrative autonomy to carry out its activities, was linked to the intention of colonizing the Amazon and also to containing agrarian conflicts.
As time passed, it focused on the process of redemocratization and replaced the goal of colonization with the proposal of agrarian reform. It can be said that the institute’s goal focuses on providing pieces of land to some families who do not have any.
