The Audi officially ends 30 years of history of the A4 with a significant transformation. Starting in 2025, the A4 will be known as the A5 and A5 Avant, representing the evolution of five generations since its launch in 1994. This change is part of Audi’s new naming strategy, where purely electric models receive even numbers, while combustion engines are designated with odd numbers. Additionally, performance enthusiasts can look forward to the S5 and S5 Avant with six-cylinder engines.
Design And Dimensions: Evolution With Style
The new Audi A5 and A5 Avant have grown by 67 millimeters in length, now measuring 4,829 millimeters, and the wheelbase has increased by 80 millimeters, totaling 2,900 millimeters. The exterior design features a wider and flatter front grille, slim headlights with LED lighting, and an innovative rear light strip that is a point of pride for Audi’s designers.
The second-generation digital OLED headlights bring active light signatures, creating impressive visual effects, even while driving. The new E3 1.2 electronic architecture, equipped with five high-performance computers, manages all vehicle functions, from driving to multimedia, promising a sophisticated and technological experience.

Inside the new Audi A5, attention to detail is evident. The high-quality curved OLED screens dominate the dashboard, including a 14.5-inch multimedia display and a 10.9-inch screen for the passenger, inspired by the Q6 e-tron. The Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system with speakers in the headrests ensures a premium audio experience.
The new Audi Assistant, utilizing ChatGPT, responds to questions and requests from occupants, elevating interaction with the vehicle to a new level. Standard equipment includes parking assistance, cruise control, and attention and fatigue assistance, while additional options offer advanced technologies like adaptive cruise control and curve assist.
Performance: Efficiency And Power
The Audi A5 2025 introduces the MHEV Plus system, a mild hybrid system that approaches a full hybrid. Available with the 2.0 TFSI, 2.0 TDI, and 3.0 V6 TFSI, the system includes a 48-volt battery and a belt-driven starter-generator, providing fuel economy and reducing CO2 emissions. Parking maneuvers and low-speed driving can be done in electric mode, increasing efficiency.
The gasoline engines, completely new, feature an improved combustion process and variable geometry turbocharger. The 7-speed dual-clutch transmission is present in all versions, ensuring a smooth and responsive drive. In the future, two plug-in hybrids based on the 2.0 TFSI engine will be launched, with powers of 300 hp and 367 hp and an electric range exceeding 100 kilometers.
Launch And Prices: Coming Soon
The Audi A5, A5 Avant, S5, and S5 Avant are already available for order in Europe, with a launch planned for November 2024. The base gasoline sedan with 150 hp has a starting price of 45,200 euros (R$ 266,516), while the A5 Avant costs about 1,000 euros more. Standard equipment includes navigation, electric tailgate, and wireless charger for smartphones.
In Germany, the largest market for the new A5 lineup, the wagon version is expected to represent 80% of sales. In the US and Canada, only the sedan will be offered. In Brazil, Audi has yet to confirm when the change to the new A5 will occur, but it is expected to follow the European trend.
