In Maringá, in the state of Paraná, Cocamar is in the process of building a new biodiesel plant, with an estimated production of 300 tons/day starting in December

Cocamar Cooperativa Agroindustrial is in the process of building a new biodiesel plant in the city of Maringá, located in the state of Paraná. The unit, which is expected to produce 300 tons per day, will have investments of R$ 40 million in the 2020/2025 planning. The new plant in the biofuel sector is expected to start operating in December, still in 2021.

Construction of a biodiesel plant in Paraná

The construction of the new Cooperativa Agroindustrial plant in Paraná will be fully automated, so that it can extract, on average, oil from 1.500 tons of soybeans every day. Valdemar Cremoneis, executive industrial manager at Cocamar, said that within the same planning cycle, the 50% increase in soybean crushing capacity in the industry should increase from 3.000 tons to 4.500 tons. According to him, in this way, they will have more raw materials to supply biodiesel plants and retail oil production.

The cooperative's business director, Anderson Alves Bertolleti, said that for the cooperative members, the biodiesel plant in Paraná will be a new business opportunity, so that it can add more value to its production. He pointed out that the cooperative is moving towards the verticalization of the soy complex.

This year, Cocamar Cooperativa Agroindustrial is expected to process 1 million tons of grain at its plant, which represents more than half of the 1,7 million tons forecast for the 2020/21 harvest.

Biodiesel inclusion program

Producers who own a small area of land and registered before 18/11 are entitled to the “social seal”, and each sack of soybeans will receive an extra R$1,20. This program applies to properties with up to four Pronaf (National Family Agriculture Program) financial modules and have an active DAP (Declaration of Eligibility for Pronaf) and an active CAR (Rural Environmental Registration Agency). The Social Seal is an inter-ministerial plan by the Federal Government to promote the integration of biodiesel into Brazil's energy base and strengthen family farming.

Cocamar Agroindustrial Cooperative: The company was founded on March 27, 1963 and is located in Maringá, in the state of Paraná. Initially, it brought together 46 founders, all coffee producers. The goal is to organize regional production, receive products and benefit from them. Over time, the cooperative realized the diversification of the business and continued to grow. Today, the Cocamar plant has more than 80 operating units distributed in the states of the north and northwest of Paraná, west of São Paulo and southwest of Mato Grosso do Sul.

MME temporarily reduces mixing in diesel

The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) informed that, after the 79 auction, the mixture of biodiesel with diesel will be temporarily reduced from 13% to 10%. Although the Brazilian soybean harvest – one of the main raw materials for biodiesel – is expected to grow to around 136 million this year, demand in the world market remains strong, which has led to a temporary reassessment of the proportion of the mixture in the fuel, according to the investment portfolio of the Ministry of Agriculture.

This wouldn't be the first time the mix has been changed. In August, the event was canceled by the ANP. On the occasion, Bento Albuquerque, Minister of Mines and Energy, announced the reduction of the diesel mixture, citing problems with the supply of soybeans. Brazilian biodiesel is most of the soybean oil feedstock, accounting for about 71%, and the rest is made up of tallow and other fats. Access the full article here.
