The Wind Farm Fontes dos Ventos II Is Located in the Municipality of Tacaratu and Has 99 MW of Installed Capacity
The company Enel Green Power in Brazil, one of the leaders in renewable energy production on the planet, announced the start of commercial operation of the wind farm Fontes dos Ventos II. The works for the project began at the height of the pandemic, representing an investment of approximately R$ 430 million. The project is located in the tranquil city of Tacaratu, in the Sertão of Pernambuco, more than 415 kilometers from Recife, and has 99 MW of installed wind energy capacity.
The wind farm Fontes dos Ventos II is installed in the same region where Enel Green Power has been operating since 2015. It was there that the company built Brazil’s first hybrid solar and wind farm, totaling 89.9 MW by combining the Fonte dos Ventos I and the Fontes Solar projects.
The new wind farm in Tacaratu contains 18 turbines that can produce over 421 GWh of energy per year, according to Enel Green Power. This helps avoid the emission of 230 kilotons of CO2, in addition to preventing the purchase of 97 million cubic meters of gas per year. Thus, promoting sustainable savings and contributing to a cleaner world.

Advancement in renewable energy: A R$ 150 million project launched by Petrobras and Finep aims to create state-of-the-art electrolyzers for green hydrogen, strengthening national research and preparing Brazil to compete in a billion-dollar energy market.

Illiterate or semi-literate grandmothers were trained to repair solar systems, open rural workshops, and light up homes that still depended on kerosene.

The world has bet on green hydrogen as the fuel of the future, but now faces the side effect: producing 1 kilogram requires about 9 liters of ultrapure water, and the largest projects on the planet are precisely in the driest regions of the Earth, where water is already scarce for people.
“This new project illustrates Enel Green Power’s ongoing contribution to the expansion of renewable sources in the country in recent years. We are expanding our installed wind capacity in a region where we have had a presence for years. It was a project that generated important learnings for the company and other sector players, in order to study the opportunities of the complementarity of sources and stimulate the regulation of associated projects.”

Clean Energy from the New Wind Farm by Enel Green Power Will Be Destined for the Free Market
The electricity produced at the wind farm Fontes dos Ventos II will be supplied to the free market. Enel Trading, the group’s trader in Brazil, will handle sales to commercial clients.
In July 2021, Enel Green Power and Lojas Renner established a partnership so that 170 stores and a distribution center of the fashion retailer would be powered by energy generated at the new wind farm Fontes dos Ventos II. The supply contract is for 15 years.
Lojas Renner also has contracts with Enel Green Power to access international renewable energy certificates that certify the origin of the energy specified in the agreement.
The total volume expected in the contract with Lojas Renner is 11.3 MW on average, which corresponds to a consumption of 100 GWh/year, according to the global energy producer.
In Brazil, the Enel Group has over 4.7 GW of installed renewable capacity, of which more than 2.1 GW comes from wind, about 1.2 GW from solar, and around 1.3 GW from hydropower.
