The US government has announced its goal to expand its offshore wind energy industry over the next decade.
The US government announced its plan to install offshore wind farms by 2030, aiming to supply more than 10 million homes, thus contributing to the fight against climate change. The White House stated that the plan's goal is to produce 30 GW of wind power in the country by the set date. The plan is part of a broader effort by President Joe Biden to eliminate US greenhouse gas emissions to combat climate change.

Offshore wind energy in the United States
The Joe Biden administration has announced that this goal will require an estimated annual investment of more than $12 billion. The plan is expected to be installed in the Atlantic and Pacific, potentially creating thousands of jobs. According to the White House, the offshore wind energy plan will have the potential to eliminate 78 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
The United States government is considering choosing the coastal areas of New York and New Jersey. The lots for sale will be offered at the end of this year and at the beginning of next year. Currently, the United States has only one offshore wind farm, located near Rhode Island.
The administration of Biden's predecessor, former President Donald Trump, has promised to launch offshore wind energy as a promising domestic industry, but has not approved any projects.
Job creation in the United States
The US government has stated that by 2030, the installation of offshore wind farms will directly employ 44.000 workers and create an additional 33.000 jobs to support employment. The government has promised that these will be “well-paying jobs with union representatives”.
