State Invests in Advanced Technology to Transform Road Infrastructure and Increase Safety; Duplication of PR-092, Use of Concrete and New Viaducts Promise to Revolutionize Traffic in the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba with Long-Term Benefits.
The modernization of road infrastructure is one of the main challenges faced by Brazilian states, and Paraná has been investing heavily in this area.
One of the most anticipated projects by drivers in the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba is becoming a reality: the duplication of the Road of Minerals (PR-092).
With an innovative approach, the project uses concrete pavement, a material that promises greater durability compared to traditional asphalt.

Project Already Reaching 47% Completion
According to information from the Department of Highways of Paraná (DER/PR), linked to the Secretariat of Infrastructure and Logistics (SEIL), the concrete duplication of the Road of Minerals reached 47.11% completion in February 2025.
This milestone represents a significant advance in the execution of the works, which include earthworks, paving, drainage, and installation of new safety devices.
The main highlight of the project is the viaduct being constructed at the intersection of the Road of Minerals and the Limestone Road (PR-509).
Currently, the structure is 67.87% complete, while the containment devices have already reached 70% completion.
The viaduct, of the Diamond type, will allow for a more organized flow, with accesses and exits by the right lane and the implementation of two roundabouts to regulate local traffic.
Benefits of Concrete Pavement
The choice of rigid concrete pavement was not random. This material has a durability at least twice as long as that of common asphalt, ensuring less need for maintenance over the years.
In addition, it has greater resistance to heavy loads, an essential factor for highways with intense truck traffic, such as PR-092.
Another benefit of concrete is its greater grip in adverse weather conditions, reducing the risk of accidents on rainy days.
This factor becomes even more relevant considering that the Road of Minerals is one of the main logistical corridors in the region, facilitating the flow of inputs and products.
Expanding Infrastructure
In addition to the duplication of the main track, the project also includes the implementation of marginal roads, which will facilitate access to businesses and residences along the stretch.
According to the DER/PR, more than 50% of the earthworks have already been completed, allowing progress in subsequent stages.
The project also includes the installation of rainwater drainage devices, with the cellular galleries already finished. Another significant improvement is the new road lighting, which will contribute to safer night traffic.
The infrastructure will be complemented with a new pedestrian walkway, bike lanes, and sidewalks, ensuring mobility and safety for different types of road users.
Additionally, the project includes the implementation of new horizontal and vertical signage, promoting better guidance for drivers.
Next Phase: Expansion to Jardim Areias
In parallel with the ongoing work, the DER/PR is already planning the expansion of the duplication of PR-092 to the locality of Jardim Areias, located in the municipality of Almirante Tamandaré.
At the end of February 2025, a public hearing was held to present the project for the new phase, which will cover a larger stretch and include the construction of 13 new viaducts.
The next step will be the publication of the bidding notice, a fundamental procedure to continue the project.
With this expansion, the expectation is that the region’s road infrastructure will be significantly improved, promoting smoother traffic and enhancing safety for drivers and pedestrians.
Economic and Social Impact
In addition to improving mobility and reducing congestion, the duplication of the Road of Minerals represents an important economic boost for the region.
The modernization of the stretch will facilitate the transportation of goods, benefiting sectors such as industry, agriculture, and mining, which depend on good logistical conditions to distribute their products.
The project also generates direct and indirect jobs, stimulating the local economy and contributing to regional development.
With the completion of the works, the expectation is that new investments will be attracted to the area, further driving economic growth.
