Many Bars And Restaurants Will Have To Open Job Positions After The Crisis Left By Covid-19, Which Still Causes Fears Of Economic Stagnation. However, In June, At Least 26% Of The Sector Finished In The Red.

The Brazilian Association of Bars and Restaurants (Abrasel) released a survey showing that at least 35% of all business owners who own bars and restaurants plan to open job positions to hire new professionals, such as servers and waiters, by the end of 2022, which would represent the creation of over 100,000 job vacancies, thus impacting the economy and the GDP (Gross Domestic Product).

According to the president of the entity, Paulo Solmucci, it is estimated that over 1 million job vacancies in this sector have already been created in the last twelve months following Brazil’s attempt to recover from the crisis left by the Covid-19 pandemic, with the lifting of the mask mandate and the opening of enclosed spaces to various public.

June Had One Of The Best Results For The Economy Of Bars And Restaurants, According To The Report

The survey, which was under the responsibility of Abrasel, showed that the month of June had one of the best results for the sector, as at least 37% of business owners reported profits above expectations, compared to 35% during the month of May.

In summary, despite this positive data, it is estimated that about 26% of them ended up in the red – mainly due to difficulties in overcoming the crisis and the high prices impacting consumption, compared to 29% who were in the red in May.

Additionally, 37% of respondents stated that they finished the month of June with a balanced budget, according to estimates from their cash flow, considering previous months.

With Positive Data, The Unemployment Rate Shows A Strong Decline And New Job Vacancies Are Created

Between April and July, the unemployment rate in Brazil was around 9.3%, which is a considerably lower value compared to last year’s rates, which impacted nearly 15% of the unemployed population. The increase in hiring, whether formal or informal, allows many Brazilians the opportunity to enter the job market and stop relying on social programs like Auxílio Brasil, created last year to replace the old Bolsa Família, which was funded by the Workers’ Party (PT) government for over a decade and a half.

The World Cup, according to an article published by CNN, brings better expectations for the recovery of Brazil’s economy, as it will provide more incentive for tourism and commerce. It’s as if the football games bring more people to the streets to celebrate victories or to watch the games with friends or colleagues.

Abrasel Says The Sector Still Faces Great Challenges With High Inflation That Is In Double Digits

Abrasel shows that about 71% of business owners are facing difficulties in passing on the costs of food products to their end customers, which causes them to incur losses due to inflation, which is in double digits. The Brazilian government, led by Jair Bolsonaro, has been developing strategies to control these variations, such as the increase of the Selic to 13.75% in the last meeting of the COPOM, which occurred on August 3.

Despite the good expectations with the World Cup, the Senate approved the possibility of companies allowing food allowance withdrawals after 60 days for their employees, which could lead to a loss of over R$ 5 billion for bars and restaurants.
