Low-code: An Alternative To The Lack Of Technology Professionals In Brazil
And the question is: there are not enough professionals in the required quantity and training. In Brazil, the scenario is serious: the research conducted by BrazilLAB and Fundação Brava, in partnership with the Center for Public Impact (CPI), states that, unless measures are taken, the deficit of digital professionals is expected to continue growing at a rate of 24 thousand people per year and could reach the alarming number of more than 300 thousand people by 2024.
Known as bootcamps or edtechs, many initiatives have emerged in recent years to ensure the training of professionals in the necessary quantity and quality. They promise to train programmers in months and even weeks, applying innovative concepts for teaching, such as self-paced, peer-to-peer, and project-based learning.
There is a need to train people who know how to work collaboratively, are specialists in learning, and are available for the rapid changes in this market.
With the aim of bringing more fluidity, autonomy, and speed, the so-called low-code and no-code tools have emerged. With them, any organization can develop technological solutions, even if its employees are not experts in R, Java, or Python.
The low-code and no-code technologies are based on the digital transformation of all companies, which no longer segregates technology companies from those that do not have technology as their main business. All companies are considered technological and, in some way, rely on digital solutions to offer their products and/or services. In other words, this also means that the production of technologies needs to be accessible and simple for those who are not programming specialists. Therefore, these platforms were created with the aim of maximizing the power of IT teams, reducing or even eliminating the number of codes needed for solution development.
With basic training and knowledge, users can develop tools with little or no programming in a dedicated environment for that purpose. The outlook for this market is very positive. According to an analysis by consulting firm Gartner, by 2024, more than 65% of software and applications will be developed in low-code, with an average expansion of 40% per year.
The term low-code refers to the platforms of “few codes.” This was the first modality to gain ground, bringing ready-made components for professionals to use in their applications, while also allowing customization and the creation of new elements. With it, for example, it is possible to create applications, automate processes, and provide reports and dashboards in real time, all without the need for in-depth knowledge of programming languages.
The Reduction Of Programming: The No-code
On the other hand, no-code emerged later and allowed for the complete reduction of programming, meaning that professionals do not need to worry about having prior experience and knowledge in code development. Software creation happens through an interface with templates that combine various actions. The no-code is mainly aimed at micro and small entrepreneurs, who have low IT demands. There are already several platforms in the market, widely adopted in their niches, that are part of this low-code modality.
According to a study by Deloitte, just the process of code construction with low-code can be 50% to 90% faster than a traditional approach, because the software has commands that automatically create lines, facilitating app development for those who do not know programming languages, also benefiting those who master this technology, as it frees up their time for developing more complex and disruptive solutions. The low and no-code have consolidated the concept of citizen developer in the tech world. This term represents people who do not have formal technology training but are capable of creating specific solutions for their own work.
According to the report, the market generated approximately US$ 13.8 billion (R$ 72.67 billion) worldwide in 2021, a growth of 22.6% compared to 2020, when the figure reached US$ 11.2 billion (R$ 58.98 billion). Both low-code and no-code face a common challenge: popularizing the culture of low or no code in the Brazilian market. It is necessary to truly understand the potential of these technologies and adopt them considering the national context.
Even with the replacement of human demands by digital technologies, the scenario remains conducive for people to take the lead in creating and developing these strategies. What cannot be denied is the democratization that these technologies have achieved. Through them, organizations, even small ones with few resources, can insert themselves into the digital universe, and professionals from various fields gain support to improve their work and achieve greater agility in problem-solving.
