Goodbye to the Icon of Medium Hatchbacks: Chevrolet has announced the end of production of one of its main models, marking the end of an era for car enthusiasts in Brazil.
The Brazilian market bids farewell to one of the most iconic models of the last decade, leaving a void that will be felt by many. But what led to this unexpected outcome?

The Toyota Hilux is R$ 75.5 thousand cheaper and bets on the 2.8 turbodiesel engine with up to 204 hp and 50.9 kgfm to catch up with the VW Saveiro, which leads with 4,472 sales.
-
The new Renault Koleos has a screen exclusively for the passenger that is invisible to the driver, heated rear seats, and 29 assistance systems, but its Chinese competitors cost R$ 40,000 less and deliver more power.

The car stored for 38 years: when opening the barn door, what appears is breathtaking and looks like a scene from a movie!

Fiat works miracles in the Brazilian market, lowers the price of its 0 km hatch to R$ 69,990, reestablishes the model as the cheapest car in the country, and reignites the battle against Kwid and C3.
When the last four units of the model are sold, the medium hatchback category will be restricted to luxury cars, such as Audi A3, BMW Series 1, and Mercedes-Benz Class A, or sports cars, such as Honda Civic Type R and Toyota GR Corolla.
Reasons Behind the End of Cruze Sport6
The decision to end production of the Cruze Sport6 was influenced by declining sales and the public’s preference for SUVs. In 2022, only 433 units of the hatch were registered, a significant drop compared to previous years. In 2021, 1,398 units were sold, and in 2020, 1,733.
The end of Cruze production in Argentina last year, to expand the manufacturing of the Tracker SUV, also contributed to this decision. According to Chevrolet’s website, only four units of the Cruze Sport6 remain in stock in Brazil, all sold at the list price of R$ 169,670.
Specifications and Last Models
The Cruze Sport6 is equipped with a 1.4 turbo engine producing 153 hp and 24.5 kgfm of torque, as well as a six-speed automatic transmission. The last available version is the RS, featuring a sporty design and a fixed equipment package, including six airbags, 17-inch wheels, a sunroof, and a multimedia center with integrated internet and Wi-Fi.
Of the four remaining units, two are in Curitiba (one white and one black), and two in Rio Grande do Sul (both red, one in Encantado and the other in Porto Alegre). Prices vary, with the black model in Curitiba being the only one at the list price (R$ 169,670), while the others are slightly more expensive.
History and Market Impact
The Chevrolet Cruze was launched in Brazil in 2012, replacing the Vectra GT. Initially, it came with a 1.8 engine producing 144 hp, updated in 2017 to the 1.4 turbo engine with 153 hp. Since its launch, the Cruze has gained many admirers, becoming one of the preferred cars among Brazilians.
The End of an Era for Medium Hatchbacks
The departure of the Cruze Sport6 from the market leaves a significant void in the category of affordable medium hatchbacks in Brazil.
The decision reflects a global trend, where SUVs have dominated consumer preferences. Brands like Volkswagen, Ford, and Fiat have already removed models like Golf, Focus, and Bravo from the Brazilian market, following the same path.
With the extinction of the Cruze Sport6, Brazilian consumers are left wondering: Will we ever see the return of affordable medium hatchbacks in Brazil?
