BYD Hybrid SUV Combines Flex Engine and Plug-In Technology, Promises Range Over 1,000 km and Will Be Produced in Camaçari (BA) Focused on Rivals Like Corolla Cross and Compass 4xe.
BYD initiated vehicle assembly on Thursday (9) at the Camaçari (BA) complex and presented the Song Pro with an updated look and a flex plug-in hybrid powertrain already developed.
According to the brand, the combination of combustion engine and electric system promises range over 1,000 km, positioning the SUV to directly compete with Corolla Cross and Compass 4xe in the hybrid segment.

BYD presents the new Great Tang electric vehicle with 7 seats, Blade battery of 130.15 kWh, a range of up to 590 miles CLTC, AWD 585 kW, and 0 to 100 in 3.9 seconds.
The spotlight was on the restyled unit of the Song Pro, which will be allocated to the Brazilian delegation participating in the COP30, the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change.
According to BYD, another 29 units with the same purpose have been assembled in Brazil, still with a low level of localization, forming a limited series in honor of COP30.
Production in Camaçari and Facelift Schedule
Although the shown SUV features a redesigned front, series production in Camaçari will initially occur in SKD mode with the current design.
The facelift displayed now, previewed earlier, will be for 2026.
The manufacturer justifies the schedule by the existence of a significant volume of kits from the previous model to be assembled before the transition to the new aesthetic.
Flex Plug-In Hybrid: Technology and Performance

BYD announced that it has completed the development of the flex plug-in hybrid powertrain, combining the DM-i system with the well-known 1.5 engine reworked to operate on gasoline and ethanol.
No detailed technical specifications were disclosed, such as power and torque, nor certified consumption data.
The promise of over 1,000 km of range stems from the synergy between the flex combustion engine and the plug-in rechargeable electric system, a central feature of the DM-i.
Although the new powertrain does not have official numbers, the current line of the Song Pro sold in Brazil offers 223 hp in the entry-level version and 235 hp in the top variant.
The brand does not disclose the torque of these setups.
All-Wheel Drive is always front-wheel drive, distributed through an e-CVT transmission, a configuration that should remain in the flex hybrid.
Statement from Wang Chuanfu
The CEO of the manufacturer, Wang Chuanfu, stated that he identified the potential of ethanol in the country and associated the decision to develop a specific powertrain for the local market with a visit made two years ago.
“Two years ago, during a visit to Brazil, I realized the potential of ethanol. We then decided that we would bring our plug-in hybrid technology, but with a flex engine developed by and for this country. The car we delivered today to President Lula is proof that BYD not only invests in Brazil but co-creates with Brazil unique solutions for the world.”

Design and Dragon Face Language
The restyled Song Pro adopts the Dragon Face philosophy, which guides the latest launches of the brand.
The front now features sharp headlights connected by a horizontal chrome bar.
The bumpers have a new design, with a redesigned lower grille and revised air intakes, bringing the SUV closer to visual elements seen in the BYD Tan.
The wheels have also changed style in the images displayed by the manufacturer.
At the rear, the changes are subtle, preserving the identity of the model.
The goal was to modernize the front and refine the aerodynamic package without compromising proportions and angles useful in everyday use.
Dimensions and Proportions of the SUV
The updated Song Pro measures 4.73 m in length and 1.86 m in width, with a 2.71 m wheelbase.
The height is 1.71 m.
Compared to the model currently sold in the country, there is a reduction of 3 mm in length.
The approach and departure angles are 18º and 22º, respectively, figures compatible with the proposal of an urban SUV capable of tackling potholes and ramps without compromising comfort.
Interior Still Kept Under Wraps

The manufacturer has not released photos of the cabin of the restyled model.
Expectations are that the interior will bring nuances compared to the current Song Pro, maintaining the quality of finish and the large-format multimedia center that characterize the brand’s products.
So far, there is no confirmation about new materials, layout changes, or driving assistant packages.
Competition with Corolla Cross and Compass 4xe
With the promise of high range and the combination of flex refueling with external charging, BYD is directly targeting buyers who today are considering mid-size hybrids in the country.
Corolla Cross and Compass 4xe are segment benchmarks and should be the most evident targets in this competition.
The strategy to begin local assembly and then introduce the facelift seeks to enable immediate scaling, while the company prepares for the aesthetic transition and deepens adjustments of the flex powertrain to Brazilian realities.
BYD’s Next Steps in Brazil
The brand has not anticipated prices, arrival dates in stores, or timeframes for certifying the flex hybrid powertrain.
It also did not detail range in official cycles or charging time.
As the assembly phase in Camaçari progresses and the commemorative series for COP30 fulfills its institutional role, BYD is expected to consolidate the schedule for introducing the updated look and increasing the localization rate at the Bahia industrial complex.
How can this combination of ethanol with plug-in technology reshape the competition among mid-size hybrids in Brazil and change the preference of those currently considering Corolla Cross and Compass 4xe?
