Angra dos Reis Port Managed by Splenda Offshore Since 2020, Right After Technip’s Departure in 2019, Has a Strategic Location to the Giant Pre-salt Fields of the Santos Basin.
The giant Maersk and TPAR signed on last Monday (29/11) an agreement to transform the Angra dos Reis Port Terminal (TPAR), managed by the Splenda Port group, into one of the main offshore support bases in the country. The investments promise to create job opportunities and restore the dignity of several families who suffered from the layoffs at the Brasfels shipyard, caused by the crisis in the construction and production sector in the Brazilian naval industry.

“We are investing in operational and structural improvements to increase the capacity of the Angra dos Reis Port Terminal to operate with larger vessels. Our goal is to transform it into the main offshore support base in Brazil,” said TPAR’s CEO and partner at Splenda Port, Paulo Narcélio.
Angra dos Reis Port Will Support the Pre-installation Operations of the FPSO Sepetiba’s Mooring System, Under Construction in China, by SBM.
The project not only aims to invest in improving the port’s facilities but also to serve as the support base for the pre-installation operations of the FPSO Sepetiba’s mooring system, under construction in China by SBM.

The forecast is for the project to begin in January 2022, starting with the installation of the pre-anchoring of the torpedoes and lines for the FPSO, and the work is expected to last about seven months.
TPAR Angra dos Reis Port, managed by Splenda Offshore since 2020, right after Technip’s departure in 2019, has a strategic location to the giant pre-salt fields of the Santos Basin.
The unit also has a total area of 87,000 m², 400 m of berth length, and availability of docking space and back area. Recently, the Splenda group acquired a fluids plant and also plans to increase the terminal’s draft in 2021, from 8.5 meters to 10 meters. An expansion of the storage area by an additional 50,000 m² and general improvements are also part of TPAR’s plans.
The FPSO Sepetiba has a daily processing capacity of up to 180,000 barrels of oil, water injection of 250,000 barrels, and treatment of 12 million cubic meters of natural gas, as well as a minimum storage capacity of 1.4 million barrels of crude oil. The unit will be installed in the Mero field, in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin.
Petrobras Reported the Start of Manufacturing in Brazil of the Production Modules for the P-78 Platform, at the Brasfels Shipyard in Angra dos Reis (RJ), Which Will Operate in the World’s Largest Deepwater Asset
Good news for Brazilian shipbuilding! The Brazilian oil giant Petrobras announced last night, in a relevant fact to the market, the start of manufacturing in Brazil of the production modules for the P-78 platform, at the Brasfels shipyard in Angra dos Reis (RJ).
According to the state-owned company’s announcement, the modules are units responsible for processing oil, gas, and water and make up, along with the hull, the utilities and the flare, the entire structure of a floating platform of this type. This phase of the work plans for the simultaneous manufacturing of ten modules, out of the 21 planned for the P-78, and should be completed in about 20 months.
The Construction of the Remaining Modules, the Hull, and the Integration of the Petrobras P-78 Platform Will Be Carried Out in China, South Korea, and Singapore
The construction of the remaining modules, the hull, and the integration will be carried out in China, South Korea, and Singapore. The work will be completed in accordance with the local content index required for the Búzios field in the Santos Basin, where the platform will be installed. The expectation is that the platform will be delivered in 2024, with production starting in 2025.
“The P-78 is the first of a new generation of FPSOs from Petrobras, resulting from more than ten years of learning in the cycles of design, construction, startup, and operation of production platforms in the pre-salt. The unit incorporates the best technical and engineering management solutions identified through the corporate reference project program, which culminated in the definition of a production unit model to be used in the pre-salt. For the reference FPSO, we aimed to maximize the economic value of production development projects while incorporating new low-carbon technologies, increased efficiency, and aligning the systems to the magnitude and complexity of the Búzios field wells,” said Petrobras’ Production Development Director, João Henrique Rittershaussen.
P-78 Platform Vessel Will Have a Daily Processing Capacity of 180,000 Barrels of Oil and 7.2 Million m³ of Gas
With a daily processing capacity of 180,000 barrels of oil and 7.2 million m³ of gas, the P-78 incorporates solutions that encompass enhancing energy efficiency, new CO2 separation and reinjection technologies, reduction of routine flaring, among others. The project also foresees the interconnection of 13 wells to the FPSO, consisting of 6 producers and 7 injectors, through a subsea infrastructure made up of rigid production and injection lines and flexible service lines.
Búzios Field is a World-Class Asset and is Expected to End the Decade with Daily Production Above 2 Million Barrels of Oil Equivalent per Day
The Búzios field is a world-class asset, with substantial reserves, low risk, and low extraction costs. It is expected to end the decade with daily production above 2 million barrels of oil equivalent per day, becoming Petrobras’ highest-producing asset.
Currently, there are four units in operation in Búzios, which account for more than 30% of Petrobras’ total production. The fifth and sixth platforms planned for the field (FPSOs Almirante Barroso and Almirante Tamandaré) are under construction. The modules for the eighth unit (FPSO P-79) are set to begin manufacturing in 2021, while the ninth unit (FPSO P-80) is in the contracting process.
